Thank you for doing this. There are three pages in Category: Biography articles without listas parameter for every two pages in Category: Biography articles with listas parameter.
However, the listas parameter is not as benevolent as it should be.
- Most project banners do not use the listas parameter and really do not care whether it is there or not.
- Many project banners do use the listas parameter. When one of those does not have a listas parameter a conflict is generated.
- The banner for WP Greece really cares about the listas parameter. If it lacks a listas parameter and follows a banner that has a listas parameter, it explodes. See Talk:Albert Pallavicini before Mandarax fixed it.
Please expand your authorization to include adding the listas parameter to all the project banners on a page.
Thank you!

- I have edited the unprotected templates with a listas parameter such that they no longer provide an explicit defaultsort on {{PAGENAME}} when the parameter is not provided, fixing the defaultsort conflict between parameterized and non-parameterized templates [1]. Pending a response to Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#Protected_template_edits_needed, I have added replacement rules for all protected templates containing the incorrect code to provide a listas parameter when the parameter is also supplied to an instance of template:WPBiography on the same talk page. The change in bot operation scope is sufficiently minor that I do not believe it requires re-approval. However, since I'm using a fairly large number of hand-coded replacement rules both for every protected template and all redirects to it, it is possible that I missed something. Therefore, I would appreciate you informing me if you notice any defaultsort conflicts still occurring. Erik9 (talk) 15:44, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
- Since all templates affected by the incorrect code have been updated, I have removed the rules to add defaultsort parameters to them. Erik9 (talk) 00:51, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
False positives?
In Andy Scott (English footballer) the DEFAULTSORT is set to "Scott, Andy". The bot added "Scott, Andy (English footballer)". Are you sure that the parentheses should be included? -- Magioladitis (talk) 20:58, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
And something else: Is it possible to add listas as the last parameter of WPBiography and not the last? Kingbotk plugin adds parameters in the following order: living, class, priority, listas, rest. This helps also my bot (User:Yobot) to work with the living parameter. Thanks, Magioladitis (talk) 21:00, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Here we have a serious problem: [2] Your bot added the name without replacing the special characters form the name. You have to fix the program and run it again to fix the errors produced. "André Pollmächer" must go to "listas=Pollmacher, Andre". Please don't keep running your bot without fixing this error. -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:04, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- I have rolled back the edits the bot made to articles containing special characters, as well as some pre-bot edits I made using AWB on my account which contained the same problem, though in reviewing 6000 or so edits, I may have missed something. Pending a more elegant solution, I will remove articles containing special characters from the list before the bot processes them. I can add the listas parameter at the end of the template, rather than the beginning. However, the presence of parentheses around occupational descriptions when present in the original article title is believed to be correct behavior, in the absence of any apparent standard as how to include occupational descriptions in sort keys - the examples I have seen simply omit the descriptions altogether, possibly resulting in identical sort keys for multiple articles. Erik9 (talk) 23:07, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. I am not sure about the parentheses. I just asked. I think the most important is the special characters thing. Maybe instead of reverting we could fix by running another session. AWB fixes special characters in DEFAULTSORT. We can request the same for listas. Your bot will do great job ans save us all. It justs needs some tuning. Have a nice day/evening. -- Magioladitis (talk) 01:23, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you, both of you.
- When I first started fixing the pages with DEFAULTSORT conflicts I almost despaired at the list of articles without the listas parameter as it was growing more rapidly than I thought it possible to reverse. You have done so. Your systemic changes and topical fixes have done wonders to the size of the lists.
- As for the parenthetical descriptions I truly think that they are not necessary in either the DEFAULTSORT or listas. Neither value changes the display name. If the display names have the parentheticals there should be no confusion. If they do not have parentheticals the DEFAULTSORT and listas values will not help.
- Thank you again.
- JimCubb (talk) 05:52, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
- I can confirm that the Kingbotk plugin leaves the parenthetical descriptions out. Maybe Erik9 could contact kingbot and share ideas. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:57, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Is not a surname
I have absolutely no understanding of Template:WPBiography or the listas parameter that your bot recently added to Talk:April Wine. It does however, seem rather incorrect to me, that listas=Wine, April, when "April Wine" is the name of a band and not an individual.
- I.E. - This parameter suggests to me, that "Wine" has been assumed a surname, when in actual fact it is not.
Rather than reverting something I don't fully understand, I figured it may be wise to bring this to the attention of a living, breathing human in the know. Perhaps you can take a look at this, and make any applicable manual adjustments if necessary. - WikHead (talk) 10:14, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- Upon further reading, I've confirmed that the listas parameter does indeed have a similar function to that of DEFAULTSORT, as I first assumed.
- The Erik9bot contribution in this case, has been deemed non-productive, and has been reverted. - WikHead (talk) 11:12, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- I apologize for that. I am manually reviewing the list of talk pages to remove exceptions, including organizational or corporate names, before submitting them to the bot for processing. To permit reasonable efficiency, this review only extends to the article names themselves, and not to the text of the underlying articles. This process is not perfect: there may be rare occasions in which template:WPBiography is used on the talk page of an organization whose status as such is not apparent from examination of the article name. Erik9 (talk) 17:58, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Baronets
Is your bot generating a list of changes it has made? Kittybrewster ☎ 16:59, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- No. Is a list needed? Fixing broken links seems fairly straightforward and uncontroversial. Erik9 (talk) 17:05, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- It would help. Some of the angeltowns need to point to Rayment is an English surname of Old Norman origin. It derives from the given name Raymond.[1] Notable people with the surname include:
- Alan Rayment (1928–2020), English cricketer
- Doug Rayment (1910–1978), Australian rules footballer
- Ivan Rayment, British molecular biologist and crystallographer
- Joe Rayment (footballer, born 1906) (1906–1969), English footballer
- Joe Rayment (footballer, born 1934) (1934–2019), English footballer
- Kenneth Rayment (1921–1958), British pilot
- Pat Rayment (born 1965), English former football player and manager
- Paul Rayment (born 1965), South African cricketer
- Ricky Rayment, British television personality
- Tarlton Rayment (1882–1964), Australian artist, author, broadcaster, poet, naturalist, entomologist and beekeeper

This template should be used only in the article (main) namespace., some to Rayment-b and some to Rayment-hc. So, e.g. Tollemache Baronets, was an improvement but not perfection. See [3]. Kittybrewster ☎ 17:26, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Rayment
You are doing excellent work in replacing the Angeltowns website with leighrayment. However there is a better solution. There is a template {{rayment}} (for peerages) or {{rayment-hc}} for those who were only Members of Parliament. For articles on baronets, it is {{rayment-b}}. These produce a section of text explaining the website link with a link to it. I see I am not the first person to raise this. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:36, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- I have developed a method to replace the incorrect links with appropriate templates. I will also reprocess and update articles whose links were previous changed by the bot. Erik9 (talk) 20:37, 14 February 2009 (UTC)

www.ireland.com -> www.irishtimes.com
Since the Irish times moved its main website from www.ireland.com to www.irishtimes.com this has left lots of dead links all over many Irish articles. All that needs to be done is to replace ireland with irishtimes as the rest of the url has not changed. This is an ideal task for a bot. Kittybrewster ☎ 09:18, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
- Hang on! I'm sorry, but unfortunately it's not quite that simple. :(
- As described at User talk:BrownHairedGirl#www.ireland.com_-.3E_www.irishtimes.com, when The Irish Times shifted its domain, it also changed some URLs in other ways. Please before making any edits could a bot provide a list of all the Ireland.com URLs which are linked to from wikipedia, so that we can do a proper check on what needs to be done to them. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:28, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, Erik.
I have just been through them all, and found that the picture is rather complicated. The archive/archives issue I had found seems merely to have been a few typos by me, but unfortunately the other URLs are not as straightfoward as I had hoped.
I have made a list here of conversions which do work:
http://www.ireland.com/ancestor/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/archive/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/archive http://www.ireland.com/focus/haughey/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/focus/haughey/ http://www.ireland.com/focus/election2007/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/focus/election2007/ http://www.ireland.com/focus/election_2002/ -- >http://www.irishtimes.com/focus/election_2002/ /newspaper/breaking doesn't convert before 2001 http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/breaking/2001/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2001/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/breaking/2002/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2002/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/breaking/2003/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2003/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/breaking/2004/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2004/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/breaking/2005/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2005/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/breaking/2006/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2006/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/breaking/2007/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2007/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/breaking/2008/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2008/ /newspaper/features before 2005 seem to be in trouble http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/features/2005/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/features/2005/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/features/2007/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/features/2007/ /newspaper/finance before 2004 doesn't seem to convert http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/finance/2004/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/finance/2004/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/finance/2005/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/finance/2005/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/finance/2006/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/finance/2006/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/finance/2007/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/finance/2007/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/finance/2008/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/finance/2008/ /newspaper/frontpage before 2006 doesn't seem to convert http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/frontpage/2006/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2006/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/frontpage/2007/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2007/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/frontpage/2008/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2008/ /newspaper/ireland before 1997 doesn't work http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/1997/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/1997/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/1998/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/1998/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/1999/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/1999/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/2000/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2000/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/2001/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2001/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/2002/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2003/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/2003/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2003/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/2004/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2004/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/2005/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2005/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/2006/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2006/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/2007/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2007/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/2008/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2008/ http://www.ireland.com/theticket/articles/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/theticket/articles/ http://www.ireland.com/sports/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/sports/ /newspaper/weekend is inconsistent, best done manually
Is that too much of a horribly complicated job for your bot? If you are able to make it do that lot, we'll cover the vast majority of the links. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 17:11, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for the later additions! --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:20, 7 March 2009
This is great Eric. I have been going through the remainder, trying to fix any stragglers, and found another pattern that works:
http://www.ireland.com/sport/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/ http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ --> http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/
If you and your bot aren't completely fed up with this, could you do these ones?
Thanks! --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 02:09, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
- Done. Erik9 (talk) 03:11, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
- Brilliant. After I fixed a few more manually, there only about 6 or 7 oddities left in mainspace, and I can't figure out what to do with them. The remainder (about 260) are al on talk pages, project space etc.
- So that's it -- job done!
- Thank you very much for all your patient help. You have been great! --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 04:07, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
