AlexNewArtBot - non selection of some articles
I have been monitoring the "literature" part of this bots work for some time now and have in the last few days also been looking at the "New pages" feed from wikipeida. I have been wondering how the Bot has been missing article creations like.
But finding articles like.
There are plenty of other examples but these are just a few to illustrate. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 10:30, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for noticing it! It appears that the recent new feature of the yellowing "Non-patrolled pages" has broken my bot reading the new pages. It only read the non yellowed "patrolled" ones. I believe I have fixed the code, it won't affect the today run in the progress, but the future runs.

Harun al-Rashid
Hi Mr Alex Bakharev, If you didn't notice I tried so hard to make it on the Discussion page, unfortunately the members are undoing/reverting without any good reason and without leaving comments in the discussion page, so what is the point of the Discussion page in the 1st place? Any way thank you for just warning me. and I got it this time. Mussav (talk) 12:12, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, Mr. Mussav, if you think some editors violate the letter or the spirit of wikipolicies try to talk with them or draw attention of admins (there are more than 2000 of them on enwiki) or try WP:DR. What you do not do is to use socks or otherwise game the system. This for your own good, blocked editors cannot advance their point of view even if it is valid Alex Bakharev (talk) 12:53, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Alexei Gorokhov
Hi there. I am new to Wikipedia and am trying to improve an orphaned article on the violinist Alexei Gorokhov. I noticed you made some improvements and wanted to say thankyou! Your pages on culture are fabulous. Any tips on how best to find resources on Gorokhov to improve the article would be great. As an English speaker I am having trouble finding out about him, although I have been in touch with one of his former students who may have some resources!

Sheffield Wednesday
Hi Alex, I have set up your new article bot to scan for articles related to Sheffield Wednesday and today it found one article that satisfied the rules, however it has not created a search results page. Any ideas why? Dan1980 (talk | stalk) 21:36, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- I think it is the same issue as User_talk:Alex_Bakharev#AlexNewArtBot_-_non_selection_of_some_articles. I am working on it Alex Bakharev (talk) 02:11, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
Nochnoy Dozor (advocacy group) was moved and redirected (last steps by an anonymous IP!) so that its history and talk page got lost. I like the move, but would like the information lost restored. This request is totally unpartisan: User:Martintg recently changed the text to answer my criticism on the talk page about the POVness of the word "Interestingly". It is important that people know Martintg made that edit, why he did the edit, and that at l(e)ast the feud seems to be subsiding a bit. Luckily, there was no archive on the talk page.
I hope you still consider yourself neutral enough to make that change? Or should I first ask Martintg and his main opponent, User:RJ CG to agree to that?

Thank you muchly for your support in my recent request for adminship, which was successfully closed on 76%, finishing at 73 supports, 23 opposes and 1 neutral. The supports were wonderful, and I will keep in mind the points made in the useful opposes and try to suppress the Larry David in me! Now I'm off to issue some cool down blocks, just to get my money's worth!
Kidding btw. All the best, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 11:41, 5 March 2008 (UTC) |
Fair use rationale for Image:Inkijinoff_Storm_Over_Asia.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Inkijinoff_Storm_Over_Asia.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 01:52, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
AlexNewArtBot - kind request
Hello. I checked new articles list, many generated by your bot and I noticed there is no list of new articles concerning geographical features. Would it be possible to set up the bot to find out new articles about lakes, mountains, rivers etc.? Thank you very much. - Darwinek (talk) 11:30, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- There is a feed concerning waterbodies User:AlexNewArtBot/WaterbodiesSearchResult with the rules in User:AlexNewArtBot/Waterbodies, I guess we can make a similar thing for the mountains. What is the relevant project? Alex Bakharev (talk) 11:49, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. There's a Wikipedia:WikiProject Mountains and Wikipedia:WikiProject Volcanoes. Similar list for the mountains would be great. I would propose such keywords as: mount(ain), volcano, valley and caldera. Peak and summit have many other meanings, so I wouldn't recommend these. - Darwinek (talk) 12:39, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Magomayev.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:Magomayev.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 14:24, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Pictures from Livejournal
Hi, I noticed you trying to add some pictures to the Russian presidential election, 2008 article. Please be aware that any information from LiveJournal, or any other self-published or otherwise unreliable source is widely unacceptable for wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Verifiability for more info on sources. Thanks.99.240.27.210 (talk) 10:16, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- Also, please remove those same pictures from the Medvedev article, since I cannot. Thanks. 99.240.27.210 (talk) 10:25, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- Please continue the discussion on Talk:Russian_presidential_election,_2008#Pictures_from_Romanik as the topic might be interesting for other editors working on the article Alex Bakharev (talk) 10:50, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Cyrillic alphabet
Hi, Alex. Do you know a trustable free programme which transforms Cyrillic alphabet into the Latin and vice versa? I'm having problems with the Cyrillic alphabet. Regards. E104421 (talk) 22:09, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- http://translit.us/ seems to work fine when I tested it (obviously have no need for it myself). If it is not you wanted please describe the problem in a few more words, there might be problems e.g. with different encodings for Cyrillic (besides Unicode, there are a few encodings using one-byte characters: Windows-1251, KOI-8, Mac, etc) Alex Bakharev (talk) 23:54, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Block of Aziz1005
Hey there.
I've looked through Aziz1005 (talk · contribs) and Neptunes2007 (talk · contribs), and I admit I couldn't find much similarity beyond the fact that they both work around the same Iraqi articles (which, given that they state being Iraqi, wouldn't be too surprising).
