DYK nomination of Princess Alice of the United Kingdom
Hello! Your submission of Princess Alice of the United Kingdom at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Bradjamesbrown (talk) 08:18, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
Portal:Scouting broken
When Jan 1, 2010 rolled around this portal display went awry. I checked it on both my computers and it looks the same: some portlets display on the left with blank space on the right, some display across the whole screen, and then some display on the right with blank space on the left. I changed my screen settings and it doesn't help. I have not changed any of the portal's code, so one would think something with the new monthly content is breaking it, but I have no idea what. It displayed fine prior to that. Can you help? Thanks. — Rlevse • Talk • 14:46, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Princess Alice copy edits
I made a few small copy edits to Princess Alice of the United Kingdom. I left a few notes inline for you to consider. Best wishes, NW (Talk) 04:59, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you! I've addressed most of the hidden notes. There is one I need to clarify in the source. As for the awkward paragraph about the Austro-Prussian war, I've divided it into two paragraphs. Does that read better now? Thanks again, PeterSymonds (talk) 13:10, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
PeterSymonds, I made a few small changes to both of these articles regarding the images:
- I retouched File:Princess_Beatrice_Downey.jpg into this File:Princess_Beatrice_Downey1.jpg.
- I also made a minor retouch to File:Princess_Alice_reclining.jpg and made it File:Princess_Alice_reclining.jpg although I didn't realize until now that I had saved twice in different locations, the second revision (identical to the current revision of File:Princess_Alice_reclining.jpg) File:Princess_Alice_reclining1.jpg.
- Finally, I removed the dirt from File:Alice_do_reino_unido.jpg into the final version File:Alice_do_reino_unido1.jpg. If you disagree with any of these changes feel free to revert/ rollback/ undo.
- And your DYK hook for Princess Alice of the United Kingdom was accepted. IShadowed ✰ 08:18, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
- Fantastic work! Thanks for doing that. :) PeterSymonds (talk) 13:14, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

I was in the process of creating the page, was this not abundantly clear to you as you tagged it for deletion in a rather slap happy fashion? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jackboyh (talk • contribs) 12:03, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Skasome society
I am slightly confused as to why you have deleted the Skasome Society Page..I have followed all of the instructions for citing, as well as the A7 guidelines. Skasome pops up a few times in the Westfield Mass under bands with Killswitch Engage, and I am just irritated with all the work I had put In. If you could help me out, it is greatly appreciated —Preceding unsigned comment added by Krb582 (talk • contribs) 16:28, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
- Hi there. I deleted the page because there was no substantial assertion of notability. The sources you provided did not adequately assert this. For example, MySpace and Wikipedia cannot be used as sources, and sites like Slaughterhouserecordingstudios and wgby.org are not reliable. The requirement for secondary and independent sources, such as newspapers, reputable magazines, journals and websites, are verifies the notability of a subject in any article.
- With that in mind, I have restored the page to your userspace, at User:Krb582/Skasome society, to allow you to work on these issues. If you require any assistance, please don't hesitate to ask.

Sports Intelligence
Hi Peter
Can you shed some light on why this was removed? there wasn't anything offensive or random just a definition of a term being used in sports?
Paul —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulh22 (talk • contribs) 12:59, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
- Hi there. It was tagged as a hoax article, because there was nothing present to suggest that the term was used in this way. I should have made that clearer in the deletion summary, so I apologise.
- One thing to remember, Wikipedia is for encyclopedic articles, rather than definitions of certain terms. If you can support your content with reliable and independent sources to verify the term exists, you may wish to add it to Wiktionary instead.

reuseconnectino
Hi Peter,
You were super quick to delete before I could even learn how to "hang on". No worries, though.
I have read a couple people's inquiries as to why they were deleted. I realize I know very little about Wiki's rules as I was just trying this out, but can you shed more light on why I was deleted. Is it that I need verifiable sources saying that "reuseconnection" is an actual entity? Does a trademark work?
Thanks, Ian Moise —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ianmoise (talk • contribs) 19:53, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Ian. The page was deleted because it failed to establish notability. Articles on Wikipedia need to assert why they are important or significant, and this is backed up by reliable and independent sources, like newspapers, reputable magazines, websites and journals. As these were not present, the article was deleted.
- If you feel you can justify the article's inclusion with these sources, I can restore it to your userspace, so you can work on it at your own pace. More information on writing can be found here (you may also find this useful). Whatever you feel comfortable with. :-)

Hi It has been suggested to me
that you are the person (you're not a BOT, are you?) who blocked the Embudo Valley Library computers from editing. I am pretty confident that this was not your intention, none-the-less it appears to have been what happened. I need to know more about this, like, how do it get the block lifted, because a patron is coming i tomorrow (Sat Jan 9) to register, after not being able to do so a few days ago. If someone is up to no-good from my library I'd like to know. If you have blocked all of Rio Arriba counnty because someone in Espanola is up to no good, that does not seem like a good idea. Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 21:30, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi Peter. I just wanted to say a (somewhat belated) thanks for your !vote at my RfA - it's nice to know I'm still remembered by some of the people at DYK. Are you still active there? Cheers, Olaf Davis (talk) 22:38, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson
Hello, I see you have declined protection to this page as you feel the edit war is over. There is a user who attempted to put a nonsense quote from Craig Ferguson on that page (regarding three nipples, plays harp, and is pregnant) repeatedly. When he (or they, at least one of the IPs were from a Maryland university) was denied doing this several times because the content was trivial and false, he moved to The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson to continue this action there. He was denied adding this information again, because it was untrue. He has now created an account called "BulliesStink" (because he feels people are being harsh to him for not letting him add this nonsense information) and if you follow the history you can see he was responding to earlier edit actions to try to reinsert this information. When another editor told him his attempt to justify putting the content on the site was invalid due to it being on YouTube, he started stripping out all references to YouTube throughout the page from other editors. While I understand YouTube shouldn't be used as a primary source and stripping these out may be valid to a certain extent, he continues to be destructive and persistent in his acts. Some help would be appreciated. Regards, Lil LovelyLillith (talk) 18:59, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Stephen Crainey
The other day I put the above article up for semi-protection as an ip user is continually removing sourced content from the article. As you declined this, and as it has happened again, with the ip user now leaving me messages saying that they will only stop deleting the sourced content if I can provide a reason for it being retained [which I had already done on the articles talk page two days ago], may I ask your advice as to what to do next? This appears to have arisen originally back in late-December when another user, Dudesleeper, removed content from the Nottingham Forest F.C. article, and the ip user took exception to this, and left a message on that users talk page - where the Stephen Crainey article had been the focus of a previous discussion. The following day the ip user started blanking out a section on the Stephen Crainey article and has continued to do so since then, under various similar ip addresses. It does seem as though this is in some sort of retaliation for Dudesleepers actions on the Nottingham Forest article. I had already left a message on the articles talk page. What should I do now? Thanks,--♦Tangerines♦·Talk 01:08, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

I have unblocked the above account. The Arbitration Committee is aware of its activity, and is actively looking into the situation. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! KnightLago (talk) 00:19, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- Fair enough. PeterSymonds (talk) 00:21, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- Though, I would point out that administrators had no way of knowing this. There was no public posting (as far as I can see) suggesting that you were actively reviewing this matter. When an arbcom-indeffed user resumes editing under his alternate account, without any indication that he was under review by ArbCom until after he's blocked, removes content relating to the Cool3 incident, block evasion is what naturally goes through one's mind.
- Thank you for clearing the matter up, but there could be some indication in future that ArbCom has at least received an appeal from an active editor. This would go some way toward preventing such misunderstandings.
- Sorry for the inconvenience. PeterSymonds (talk) 00:45, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry for the confusion. You made a good block. We had not expected an active return to editing while we were looking into the matter, so it did not occur to anyone to make an announcement. Yikes
Ok, I got burned. I was thinking the common sense of it all - elevating rights on an account that they've created because they're afraid of being hacked/passwords capture just seems contrary to common sense...it doesn't solve the issue of hacking/password capture. - Heh. A few users like to like to keep off their main account when they're travelling, so if their alternate account does get compromised, at least it's not on their primary account. This is especially true for sysops and holders of more advanced permissions. If an alternate account is compromised, it can be easily blocked, edits reverted, etc, with as little disruption as possible to the user's primary account. At least, that's my take on it. I am new to WiKi that's why i am not so experienced in article creation. Please reply to me in "my talk". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hurley100 (talk • contribs) 16:31, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
Sockpuppetry
Remember you blocked Shahshah39? He has a sockpuppet Shahshah40. Look at message on my talk page "I have returned".--Jastcaan (talk) 10:36, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, missed this message. Blocked. Thanks. PeterSymonds (talk) 10:16, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
Block
Can you look into blocking User:69.78.67.175 or protecting same-sex marriage I find this highly suspect. CTJF83 chat 19:18, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Please do not waste the time of other editors with frivolous edits. Intelligent Mr Toad (talk) 00:02, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- I have reverted you. Email me for details. PeterSymonds (talk) 10:08, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- There is no such religion as "Irish Catholic." If you do this again I will cite you for vandalism. Intelligent Mr Toad (talk) 11:12, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
Image deletes
When you deleted File:Birkenhead Park station sign.jpg, File:Birkenhead Park booking office from platform.jpg and File:Belgian Battery Corner CWGC Cemetery 512566076.jpg, did you miss the {{nocommons}} tags here, here and here? Perhaps you'll want to undelete these files. Thanks. ⇦REDVERS⇨ 08:16, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, looks like I did. Sorry about that; restored. PeterSymonds (talk) 10:15, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- Then perhaps Redvers wants to upload the original version here File:Birkenhead Park booking office from platform.jpg - I think it is a shame that users of Wikipedia should not be allowed to see the full version. --MGA73 (talk) 10:59, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
Hey
User:Wordstir is clearly a sock ... but of whom? As a mininum, it does appear that User:Vertebralcompressionfractures has some major COI ... I reviewed and declined CrunchyChewy's unblock request ... thoughts? (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 12:22, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, that was my suspicion too; I'm pleased I wasn't completely off-base! I analysed the contributions and assumed that Wordstir is Vertebralcompressionfactors, purely based on which version the former reverted to. I thought all the accounts were behaving pretty suspiciously – I thought a block for 24 hours was sensible while it was being investigated. I might ping a checkuser later to set the record straight. PeterSymonds (talk) 12:30, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- One of the IP's does resolve to DFine ... and the very top post on the article talkpage looks like he admits to being part of DFine, and uses "we" ... there are a few usernames that suddenly popup out of nowhere (Anne Hill Communications for one). I keep thinking "something, something, rotten, state of Denmark" ...(talk→ BWilkins ←track) 12:34, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- I poked around more ... indef'd Vertebralcompression ... put new block notice ... unblocked CrunchyChewy as it appears he was validly attempting to reverse what could be called vandalism (falsification of medical data and extreme promotion). Feel free to disagree :-) We'll see if socks emerge (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 12:57, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- Nope, that seems sensible. Thanks for handling that. I'll let you know what the checkuser says about the rest when one's around. PeterSymonds (talk) 13:03, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Witeink
Um...The guy's been here for two days. He's also technically a block-evading sock. HalfShadow 20:00, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
fine turn my request down. i don't mind. it's not my choice. also the only reason i created a new user is because i wanted to be able to make posts on other pages. if you will notice i have not even visited the yccs page because like i said i gave up. i'm sure youve made mistakes too, but i'm not one to judge.I will not argue againts anyones decision i might ask a question but im done fighting, its just pointless.Witeink ρεβῼTalk/Stalk 00:18, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
Vandal alert
Can you block 118.96.56.195 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)? The edits that were made on this IP were those of a IP hopping vandal putting misinformation on several Digimon articles, etc. without any proof. Please respond ASAP. I can't report him right now the WP:AIV because it's backlogged right now. Thank you. - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 11:31, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- AIV is usually faster, but in this case, done. Thanks. PeterSymonds (talk) 11:33, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi Peter

Intervention for Iaaassi
Dear Admin, I would like to confirm that Iaaassi was editing Mures Template in good faith. There was a dispute on the deletion of a template created by me, in which we exposed seriously opposing views. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2010_January_26 After we received the admin's decision, we tried to work out a compromise, and as I see from the edits, Iaaassi wanted to implement a compromise that I proposed to him on my talkpage and I expressed my thank on his talkpage for the good intention. I think he may have simply edited more times than was good. This is not the Romanian-Hungarian edit war, but one of co-operation, so let us be happy with it. The template is good as is now. As I was the author both of the deleted Maros (Mures) County template and the new version of this template, and also had a main part in the discussion, I think I can impartially judge on this issue. It would be ironic that Iaassi is blocked when seeking compromise and undestanding. Rokarudi --Rokarudi 14:31, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
User:Biophys
Hey, remember you declined my edit warring report here: [7]
You said that it was not an immediate problem as there was no active edit warring, only chronic. Well now there is, as I said there would be based on my past experiences with that user. Biophys (again as I said he would do) has also now reverted other parts of the article to match his version from September. Can you do something about this now that the edit warring is active or tell me what best to do in this case? Again his sneaky reverts and edit warring have gone on for almost two years, and all attempts at resolution/discussion failed. -YMB29 (talk) 04:40, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- That was discussion initiated by YMB29. That is how he conducted discussion. Was it really about the article or about me in the wrong place? You can also look at the entire thread. And this is history of the article where YMB recently reverted at least three other editors.Biophys (talk) 04:50, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
