Hi. I saw your name listed on a page linked from WP:Harrassment. I'm looking for help with an editor who I had a content dispute with. User:Arcandam keeps harrassing my talk page with warnings misconstruing every edit I make. He's done it a couple of times before (history). I think it started with this warning template I used to him after he made unexplained, unconstructive changes to the article that we were discussing. We've been in discussion on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hip pop, where he responded to the previous with "editsummaries suck", and he's been pretty hostile to me there. I've tried to make nice and be humble at his talk page and the discussion page, so the discussion is about the content and not our character, but he's responded with accusations, calling me ignorant about the topic of the articles I edit, and does not assume good faith because I disagree with him on certain content. One of his main accusations is that I canvassed, b/c I asked editors of music-related articles to comment on a music-related discussion, and I primarily edit those kind of articles. He uses this to undermine any logical argument I make. Both at his talk page and the discussion page, he's threatened to follow the edits I make, so isnt that sort of uncivil or wrong? He is not considering anything I say, so I'm done trying his talk page. Can you please help? He seems to respond better to others who havent debated him yet. Long-term Wikibreak, and the reasons whyFirstly, I'll state upfront this isn't one of those dramatic "retirement notices". But, like many long-serving editors who I have a lot of respect for, I have reached a point of burnout where I just don't have any enthusiasm to add to the work I've already done here. I've greatly enjoyed my five years plus on Wikipedia, especially the earlier parts of it. I remember back to the vibrant, collaborative atmosphere that was WikiProject Western Australia in 2007 and early 2008, and look back with some pride on what we achieved then, as well as my own achievements in the political side of things later on. BackgroundAs those who watch my edits will know, for 18 months or so the lion's share of my editing has been in areas where I have been the sole maintainer of content. There has been cases - Queensland LGAs are a good example - where I can literally leave the entire area for 12 months, come back and find it exactly as I left it, ready for me to pick up from my Microsoft Excel offline lists. My work includes having produced entire sets of articles for WA and historic Victorian local government areas, member lists for at least three parliaments and ministry lists. This was done with a hell of a lot of in-person library research and really getting inside the subjects I decided to cover. There are so many ways this work could be built upon, but my energy to do so is just not there - I have listed priorities here. (Needless to say if anyone wants to take them on, I'm happy to provide info I have here.) I think a bigger issue is that any time I wander outside these safe yet desolate corners, I seem to end up in conflict. While getting rid of sockfarms is a worthwhile objective, it's not the most edifying work. Also, overall, I think English Wikipedia has reached a point where "not the most edifying work" is a fairly good description of what lies ahead in an overall sense. At a recent presentation given by Wikimedia CEO Sue Gardner, it was mentioned that the English and German Wikipedias are larger than any other projects by far in terms of both articles and contributors, yet are declining in activity. (May 2011 - It's since become so urgent through the Editor Trends Survey that the WMF is taking direct action to try and stem the flow.) The energy and infectious enthusiasm is not obvious on this project any more. ConclusionIn summary, I'll be around, but my attention is now elsewhere and will be for some time to come. Maybe I'll find some as yet untapped well of interest that will motivate me to take on some new project here. And if anyone wants Political Chronicle lookups on Australian events between 1955 and 2009, or Factiva newspaper lookups, I'm still happy to oblige as I always have been. I wish good luck to those who do continue in the often thankless tasks that are involved in care and maintenance of the projects. Orderinchaos 23:14, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
IAR againThe roads people are back at it again, they have started a deletion discussion without notifing the Australian project. Bidgee (talk) 03:56, 1 January 2012 (UTC) It's baaaack.........and List of places in Western Australia by population is unsourced. This appears to have been a cut and paste move from List of Places in Western Australia by Population. --AussieLegend (talk) 16:23, 3 January 2012 (UTC) CommunistsSorry for late reply (impromptu mini-wikibreak). I generally keep an eye on the AEC's recent decisions for general updates, although even they usually go up only about a month after the ruling. I really, really wish these minor parties would settle on one name and stick to it; I remember the Climate Change Coalition and Conservatives for Climate and Environment changed their names just before they were deregistered, for some unfathomable reason, which leaves me wondering where their pages should go. As for The Communists, I was rather surprised to find that title unoccupied and not requiring disambiguation! And at least their name change is nowhere near as irritating as The Climate Sceptics'. Frickeg (talk) 09:57, 17 January 2012 (UTC) Carl FeilbergYou have previously been in on the case and we could need you comment - for or against delete this case hereHelsned 02:10, 23 January 2012 (UTC) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Carl_Feilberg#Carl_Feilberg I need some help again. I just started South West Queensland and found a reference from the Department of Local Government and Planning for population at 8,200. However if I add the 6 shire populations from 2006 ABS census data I get a much higher number, 25,139. I left the first one because the lower figure matches the same area figure. I was going to add the shire areas and populations with 2010 data but the Maranoa Region has 2009 data and a much higher population figure at 114,105 alone. I know that area has seen a lot of growth from mining but it seems very high. Can you resolve this? - Shiftchange (talk) 13:10, 25 January 2012 (UTC) Happy Australia Day! Do you think the recent reshuffle should be separated out into a separate table, like the December 2011 one? I've asked the question on the talk page but wanted your input since you made the changes. Do you know anything about this? We need to pull the content and citation iof it's not right. Cheers, Bjenks (talk) 19:45, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
LiteralismIt is possible to have locations by association rather than precise exactitude - this was going to be an off wiki discussion some days ago but you said you were hard to get hold of - at least there arent the old days of anxiety about 20 items or more for justification - I aint gonna give you a hard time - but really.... Also to take out the LGA names associated with - I can think of a whole range of sub-cats of something like the main suburbs of perth, western australia should be able to handle/accomodate - otherwise one is left with a situation where the larger perth w.a. category gets filled with crap...
