I would greatly appreciate it if you remove my article from deletion flagging. This is a serious phenomenon that I feel needs attention. Most Wall Street jargon slips under the rug and generally doesnt concern the vast majority of the public, but this topic merits discussion, and has been the focus of my research for some months. The very fact that is has not been mentioned in popular press should give credence to the need in such a forum that Wikipedia provides. If the goal of Wikipedia is truly to educate the public, then why should we deprive them of that? My goal is to bring increased transparency to the financial markets, and to the extent that a wikipedia article can help achieve that goal, I am willing t open the doors to some of my work. If you have a serious objection to this article being posted on this forum, then do what you will. However, if your interest is nothing more than passing, I ask that you please abstain from impeding the free-flow of knowledge on an albeit esoteric function of the currently dislocated financial markets. |

Revision as of 17:44, 4 February 2009
- If you leave a message for me here, I'll probably reply here, unless it is urgent. It's just easier to keep track of conversations that way.
- If I leave a message on your page, I'll watch the page for a few days, so you can answer there.
- However, if you want to do it any other way, that's fine too.

Albedo One
Albedo One was in danger of being deleted. I noted you as one of the early contributers. Not sure if you have a horse in the race or not.
I am just writing to let you know, I substantially edited it and rewrote it. But being unfamiliar to the subject, I could not confirm it still makes sense. Fortunately in wiki land, all things can be undone.
The unimpeachable change I made was creating the magazine info box, and fleshing out some of the references. --K3vin (talk) 13:39, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
I'm watching you, but not stalking!!
No problem. I really must prune my watchlist, but find that harder and harder now that it has passed the 600 mark. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 04:44, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
Pepsi Wylde
Oh, I'll just nominate Pepsi Wylde for AFD. I suppose technically as someone has challenged the Speedy, it is the proper thing to do. Five minutes of my life that I won't get back though. :) FlowerpotmaN·(t) 12:36, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- Seeing the IP's are somehow all drawn to an article while they have never edited before, i assume whoever is removing the speedies is just a sock for the username in question. Maybe it is indeed better to just AFD the thing, since its quite the well covered hoax (I mean, where did that logo come from?). Either way, if the IP's will remove the templates as well, i think ill just waste 5 minutes myself on creating a WP:SSP case on this :). Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 12:40, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
my page
You can delete it I didnt know it would be open to the public as soon as I clicked save page. Ill use the sandbox User:Invader Chason 123456
- OK, then :) FlowerpotmaN·(t) 01:40, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
finding things to edit
hi flowerpotman! i haven't been very active with wikipedia recently. But i do remember that you welcomed me when i first arrived... I need some advice: how can i find articles suitable for me to edit? I specialise in making big, clumsy articles more concise and to the point. thanks tim Timothymurphy (talk) 16:11, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Tell you what: give me a few minutes/hours and I'll drop a few ideas on your talk page. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 18:34, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Why not check out some of the articles in Category:Ireland articles needing attention. They may not all be long and clumsy but do need attention for various things. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 18:59, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, good idea WW2. I was going to suggest checking out Cleanup and redlink recovery Wikiprojects as well. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 19:12, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- I though it best to stick with Irish articles as I don't know his other interests. Of course we also have the Irish Wikipedian's To do List and if anyone is really ambitious they could try to work on some of the demoted Irish Featured articles to bring them back to FA status (one must expand page to see the demoted ones). That should keep him going for a few months!! ww2censor (talk) 19:53, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Are you sure you aren't dropping me a hint as well? ( ;)!) Must take a look at WP:Ireland stuff soon. I have been easing myself back into the swing of things gently. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 19:57, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

- Oh, the heady optimism of 2007! Although, that said, despite all the doom 'n' gloom reporting, Ireland isn't going back to the 1980's. A rough year to 18 months ahead, but even the worst predictions I have seen are saying we are going back a couple of years at worst. I remember the 80's; this ain't them. Anyhoo, off to install recession-busting Linux on a spare hard-disk. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 22:07, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- I remember the 1970s and 80s well with up to 25% unemployment and I was working freelance. We used to say that we were unemployed except when we had an assignment. Unfortunately I have not lived in Ireland for any of the tiger so have lost out on that era and its profit as the US was decent but not that good. Now it is really crap here but I look forward to returning to the Wicklow hills for some of my retirement, not too far from this place. ww2censor (talk) 22:53, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
- Nice place all right; I've been through it, though I wouldn't fancy it tonight when it's going to hit -8. Still trying to thaw out after spending a half-hour walking tonight. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 23:28, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

coins, issue datres, et al
I'm pretty sure I can find the actual issue dates as well - I expect that they are listed in 'Irish Numismatics' and I have the full set so I can look it up - the 5 and 10 pence were so similar to the shlling and florin that no familiarity issues arose.
I'm unconvinced by the familiarity argument for the fifty pence's early issue, removal of the 10 shilling note and the halfcrown left a large gap of 10:1 between the largest coin and the smallest note and a this was a problem (the Pearse 10 Shilling introduced in 1966 having been rejected as a circulating coin, which it was intended to be to replace the 10 shilling note) - modern currencies rarely work properly with much higher than a 5:1 ratio, with lower ratios such as 2 : 1 , 2 1/2 : 1 being quite commonly used.
In reality the decimalisation process was driven entirely by the English dates with Ireland just following suit, albeit somewhat delayed as the English 5 and 10 pence coins were issued in 1968 and ours in 1969 (with Irish shilling and florins still being issued in 1968). As the English coins circulated freely in the Republic at par the English 10p and 5p coins appeared in circulation in Ireland well before our decimal coins came out. I was living here at the time and was already collecting coins at the time.

Damn that's funny, I was off checking out the syntax of the References section and came back to add it, only to find someone (you) had already added it. WP is fast, you know? I just created that article! LOL Anyways, thanks. :) Eaglizard (talk) 20:15, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Eric Macfadyen
Thanks for helping with this but I think it's still wrong unfortunately. The proper spelling of his name is with the small 'f' rather than the captial. When you enter Eric Macfadyen in the search box, both spelling options are offered. Whichever you follow it takes you to the page where his name in the heading is spelled with the capital F.

Message from Kelsconsonants
Hey Flowerpotman, I did edit the page that I created and I added the importance of the person. I did label the edit and create the talk page for it and added why she was important on that as well. This person is my girlfriend and I did it for her birthday... thought it would be kinda cool. Is there anything else I can do to keep it up? Kelsconsonants (talk) 01:22, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
