RE: Concern
Hey, I'll raise your concerns with Direktor. I appreciate that you've brought this to me. Please avoid interacting with Direktor for a while or until things have calmed down. Thanks, m.o.p 01:17, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
RE:Nikola Tesla would have loved this ....
Thanks for the barnstar, I appreciate it :-) Timbouctou (talk) 16:41, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- Welcome. I got snared in that too, but I saw how you were one of the longest-suffering parties. That includes the controversy about how it was all handled by the "chiefs", which I thought turned out well, but was imbalanced toward you. Well done! Djathinkimacowboy 19:07, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks from me, too. In February 2008 when I encountered the Tesla article for the first time I merely removed some coding crap that was not needed. From then I've kept loose tabs on it to keep vandals at bay. The biggest problem is with Croatians and Serbs who want to increase the weight of their ethnicity in the article.
- Tangentially, I wrote the article about the Elliott Cresson Medal because I did not want to see a redlink on Tesla's infobox. Cheers! Binksternet (talk) 21:25, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
I left a message on the talk page, but I wanted to let you know hear that I feel that you should upload a photo of one of your trilby. I thought the hat that I took a photo was one, but I knew I could be wrong. So please upload an image of an actual trilby; I would very like to what one actually looks like. By the way, if the hat in the photo I took isn't trilby, what is it? JDDJS (talk) 03:20, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
- JDDJS, thanks for this. The hat in the photo resembles a porkpie but without being able to see the crown I'd also suggest it may just be a "stingy"-brimmed fedora. I'll do my best at uploading a photo; I'd never done it before. Djathinkimacowboy 06:17, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
- For you, JDDJS and for my reference:
http://www.delmonicohatter.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/AW07-Trilby-Blue-225X.jpg Here is an example, quite classic, of a Borsalino Trilby.
http://rutgersjca.org/main/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/felt_trilby1.jpg?w=150 Here is another example of a plainer and less expensive Trilby.
http://www.infobarrel.com/media/image/39195.gif If you take a hard look at this classic fedora in a nameless but typical style, you'll see why a Trilby is always a fedora but not vice-versa!
http://www.aztexhats.com/images/multiple/jerseywoolstingydown_3.jpg Now here is what I think is portrayed in that photo there now on the article. It's known as a New Jersey stingy-brimmed fedora, but I just call it a "nasty-brim". Hate them!
http://images.hats.com/images/products/1_135976_TH.JPG Just as a comparison, this is a true pork pie. Also truly expensive in this form. Djathinkimacowboy 06:45, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
- I agree with you that we should be allowed to use these images, but the policy for image usage is strict that it would be impossible to justify using a photo that isn't your own, or in the public domain. It is unfortunate that you can get an image of an actual trilby. The only thing I can think of is to borrow a friend's camera and if you can't find any of your own trilbys, just take a photo of one in a store. However, I know that is asking far too much of you. I would do that myself, but since I live in America, it won't be easy to find a trilby, and even if I do, it will be labeled as a fedora, and I won't be sure if it is a trilby or not. Here is a link to the original image used on the trilby page. Feel free to add it back and remove the new one. Image:Rosenberg - Selfportrait.jpg. Best wishes. --JDDJS (talk) 18:56, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
- My dear JDDJS, whilst I share your passion, all that is just way too much to ask of anyone! In any event, all the Trilby hats I showed you are available in AMERICAN stores! We have them too, for heaven's sake! The problem is, no one today really understands what the name indicates. Djathinkimacowboy 19:33, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

- Looky:
- Just wanted you to have a gander at one more fedora, this one known as the "Tyrolean" named after the Tyrol Mountains from whence it came. The Germans have always been handy at inventing new basic shapes - but they are all fedoras. I show you this because it is obvious this is also the Trilby shape.
- Come back to reply on my talk page if you like. I want to know what you think now you see all these hats and what they're called, plus the fact that they are still types of fedoras. Djathinkimacowboy 05:16, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
A great photo of Keaton
Quite a while ago I put an image of Keaton into his biography but it was deleted because of copyright concerns. I think you'll like it: Library of Congress, Fan blog. It's a great shot of Keaton late in life playing a silent (get it?) character who cannot speak; the King in Once Upon A Mattress. Too perfect. Binksternet (talk) 06:02, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Hello. You have a new message at PhnomPencil's talk page.
- Many thanks again, PhnomPencil. An editor after my own heart, you certainly are. Djathinkimacowboy 10:52, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
Deleting talk page content
Saying "All you like to do is hang about and cause trouble when others make mistakes." to another editor and then blanking their response for being uncivil seems unhelpfully inflammatory. You now appear to be accusing the editor of persuading me to come and defend him, when I merely had the article on my watchlist and was curious about a negative-wordcount edit on a talk page. Step back and enjoy the lack of mastodons for a moment, and make sure to hold yourself to the same high standards you are holding others, particularly with regard to the assumption of good faith. --McGeddon (talk) 19:31, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
- McGeddon, read and understood. I desire you to understand that I have tried to apply for informal mediation in this issue, and I always take responsibility for the errors I have committed. Do you really think I am out of order teling DIREKTOR what I have told him? Honestly? I only hope you will be willing to do this same helpful action for other editors as well. Djathinkimacowboy 19:37, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
- You're absolutely right that he's being unnecessarily aggressive, but I don't think you're helping anything by being aggressive back, or by now being pointlessly aggressive towards me, a previously-uninvolved third party (yes, of course I would undo similar talk-page blanking from other editors; until twenty minutes ago you were just another editor I'd never encountered before, I have absolutely nothing against you as a person).
- Assuming good faith and refraining from little personal attacks, even through gritted teeth, makes life a lot easier on Wikipedia. If you'd have held off from adding the unnecessary "and not try to guess" to the end of your earlier comment on the Tesla page, I imagine the thread would have just ended there, with Direktor making a minor personal attack that fell flat, and looking all the worse for it as a result. --McGeddon (talk) 19:49, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
