::I'm back from my grand exodus (getting there and back takes almost as long as being there). I didn't see a single Polar Bear :-(. Apparently none have been seen over the west side of the island all year. Pity, I was rather hoping to see one (though not through a rifle sight - carriage of which is obligatory). Saw plenty of Walruses, arctic deer and those blasted terns. Can't miss them they come and attack you if you get anywhere near their Mrs on their nests. |

Wtshymanski
Thank you for your support in the Wtshymanski affair. It looks as though one way or another, we have had a result. This was more than I expected when Andy persuaded me to raise the RfC in the first place. Unfortunately, I am now off to Spitzbergen for approx two weeks, so will not be able to watch progess. Once again thank you. I am (currently): 86.181.48.171 (talk) 17:16, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

- I'm back from my grand exodus (getting there and back takes almost as long as being there).
- I see there has been some activity on the Wtshymanski front. 86.150.65.44 (talk) 17:52, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Why do you think they're restricted to permanent magnet fields? Gramme's innovation is the ring-wound rotor, nothing to do with the fields. Andy Dingley (talk) 20:06, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not disputing it as such, but in the true spirit of Wikipedia, a citation is required to support the assertion. Wtshymanski claimed that some individual claimed the point, but provided no reference to back it up. DieSwartzPunkt (talk) 08:03, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'd see it the other way. Gramme's writings just describe the rotor in a field. If there's an additional constraint that the field can only be obtained by one particular means, then that's what needs to be cited. Andy Dingley (talk) 09:36, 15 July 2012 (UTC)
- Of all the Gramme machines that I have seen in various museums in various countries, I don't ever recall seeing one that had anything other than a permanent magnet. If machines with field coils exist then it should be easy to find a cite. (Wtshymanski claimed that any book supported the point, but I have no shortage of books that don't mention it).
