ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
Hello, DangerousJXD. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
New Challenge for Oceania and Australia
Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
"Ben"
Thankfully (and finally), we now have a guideline we can cite for omitting common nicknames in the lead. See WP:QUOTENAME: "If a person has a well-known common hypocorism, used in lieu of a given name, it is not presented between quote marks following the last given name or initial, as for Tom Hopper which has just Thomas Edward Hopper." The discussion took place at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Biographies about a month ago. Lizard (talk) 03:58, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
- Lizard the Wizard, this is great to know. Will surely come in handy. Thanks for the heads up. —DangerousJXD (talk) 05:16, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
- In addition to the scenario at Ben Simmons, WP:QUOTENAME can also be cited when making edits like this one as it clearly states that such usage of quotation marks should not be in bold. Brilliant. —DangerousJXD (talk) 05:27, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
- That part of the guideline did actually sound familiar. It's possible that I once encountered one of your edits citing the guideline and briefly read it but didn't think to cite it myself. Useful either way. —DangerousJXD (talk) 05:40, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
- Actually I probably cited MOS:QUOTEMARKS#Article openings, which says the same. Lizard (talk) 05:45, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
Merry Christmas!
I'm wishing you a Merry Christmas, because that is what I celebrate. If you don't like Christmas or just don't celebrate it in any of its forms, then please accept a generic "Happy Holidays". If you celebrate no holidays at this time of year, then hopefully you will be satisfied with an even more generic "Season's Greetings". :) BOZ (talk) 01:19, 24 December 2016 (UTC)
Megavillain vandal
Regarding the "Megavillain" vandal, I was wondering if you came across any of their IP addresses that didn't start with "2601" or "2602" as their numbered address. If you have found any, it would be helpful for me to know. It might seem like beating a dead horse, but I just opened this report as a follow up to the initial WP:SPI report. DarkKnight2149 22:37, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- Darkknight2149, I haven't encountered any of these edits since around the day they made a whole batch of them using one IP. I couldn't tell you whether I have already seen such IPs making these edits but I will notify you of anything relevant. It may interest you to know that the now new-and-improved "clash" troll has returned after a brief absence. Good luck in seeking that rangeblock. —DangerousJXD (talk) 22:59, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- Alright, thanks. Yeah, I saw the "clash" troll on the edit history for Hulk (comics) pretending to be Zjec (another user that was blocked for disruptively removing information pertaining to the 1970s Hulk show). I don't think he realises that "pacific" is actually an ocean. DarkKnight2149 01:24, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
- Darkknight2149, in regards to that odd "pacific" line, they are apparently referencing some internet meme. Not they're best work. —DangerousJXD (talk) 01:31, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
Someone should've plonked this here already...
There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. O Fortuna!...Imperatrix mundi. 14:42, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
- Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi, Boing! said Zebedee, what section are you referring to? —DangerousJXD (talk) 21:23, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
- It looks like it's been closed and archived, here. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 21:28, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
- I've seen it now, and since it's over, I have nothing much to say. I was not "hacked". I have used the "..." edit summary before; I use it occasionally to express my annoyance in having to make a particular type of edit. In this case, the edits were cleaning up after a bot which I feel should really be altered. I haven't read the section thoroughly but I don't believe there is anything else that I need to address. —DangerousJXD (talk) 21:36, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
- I have now read the entire section and I'll touch on a few more things. I do not operate a bot, I am one person, no other person has used my account, and the blanking of my user page was something I was contemplating for a while. Also, there is a legit possibility that the IP who created the section is just this little troll who has a crush on me, although, that can't really be proved. It's definitely something they would do. You can see their most recent actions at NBA 2K and User:DangerousJXD/sandbox. They once created a few impersonation accounts and they are mentioned in the above section. —DangerousJXD (talk) 21:50, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, it was pretty clear you were just cleaning up after that bot. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 21:52, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
