== Assistance at Mail art might be helpful == |
|||
You've helped out at Mail art in the past. There's a new editor, closely associated with the mail art community (he writes "Many are from my own memory; my father was the late artist Buster Cleveland") who is trying to get a list of mail artists known to him into the article. He is editing in good faith, has no idea of how Wikipedia works, but seems willing to learn. You might be able to help. We're probably going to have to sort out the difference between Mail art and Artistamp, a subject on which I know little and some others have strong opinions. Thanks. --John Nagle (talk) 20:45, 29 December 2013 (UTC) |

*** In all sincerity, it doesn't really matter if you properly cite your facts and provide basic biographical information, if you use content from a source protected by copyright. Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation takes copyright violation very seriously. Understand that this is a violation of policy with legal ramifications. The conflict of interest pertains to your relationship with the company and editing on their behalf. As stated in your first message, "WE OWN" the content. This is a clear statement that you are a connected contributor. I would recommend spending time reviewing the information I provided on your talk page. As far as donating information, when we are able to verify authorization to use the material, the article can be easily restored. I work with the OTRS team and will keep an eye out for a message from the company. Understand also that while the copyright violation exists, we cannot retain this information in the project. <font color="navy" face="Tahoma">Cindy</font><font color="purple" face="Courier">(talk)</font> 14:10, 4 January 2014 (UTC) Edited to add, if you view the template on the article, you will see a link to the "Duplication Detector", which will give you an overview of sections of copyvio text from each source. <font color="navy" face="Tahoma">Cindy</font><font color="purple" face="Courier">(talk)</font> 14:12, 4 January 2014 (UTC) |

== Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 10th Earl of Shaftesbury == |
|||
Hi Cindy, and thanks for answering my question at your RfA. I've opposed your candidacy over the poor sourcing at Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 10th Earl of Shaftesbury, which I believe in some cases contravened WP:BLPSOURCES. Can you save me a lot of sleuthing and establish which of these dubious sources I took out were added by you? I am particularly concerned with the material about the widow sourced from the Daily Express. This should never be done. If this wasn't you, and you didn't know about BLPSOURCES, I would view the matter more sympathetically. Thanks for anything you can do. --John (talk) 23:18, 15 January 2014 (UTC) |

:Never mind, I found the diff where you added scurrilous details on a living person sourced to a trashy tabloid, on 24 July 2010. If I saw you doing this now, I would give you one warning and then be prepared to block. We can't ever do stuff like that. Why did you do it? Why did you use a misleading edit summary? You caused me a lot of work, first in undoing the bad edits, then in searching it out. --John (talk) 16:36, 16 January 2014 (UTC) |

Passing by
Hi Cindamuse, just passing by and wanted to say hello. Are you working on anything interesting lately? I've just returned from a fairly lengthy wikibreak and looking for something to inspire me on my return. Mkdwtalk 00:56, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hey there, friend! Unfortunately, I had a bad accident on November 1st and haven't been online much since then. I fell through an outdoor ramp and tumbled about 20ft, landing on my head. Major concussion, skull fracture, and neck injury. If I still wasn't in so much pain, I would be laughing hysterically. I'm stirring sporadically and may be "headed" for neck surgery. (I crack myself up.) It's hard for me to focus my eyes on the monitor, so I just kinda stay in a dark room and catch up on movies. Hope you are doing well. I'll probably be back around after a couple more weeks. Cindy(talk) 03:40, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, thought I would add that I'm mulling an article about Hosea Garrett, one of the founders, chairman of the board, financier, and first president (pro tem) of Baylor University. Cindy(talk) 07:39, 15 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Thanks for pointing out the particular source that was the reason behind "This article or section contains close paraphrasing of one or more non-free copyrighted sources" issue. I have rewritten some parts of the article and am going to make it better. Cindamuse, i have recently changed my username as well because the previous one was too much related to the organization i am trying to write about in my article and was thus kind of promotional. I would make sure that next time i make any modification to the article, i am logged in. If it is possible for you to reconsider your decision regarding "consideration for deletion" and especially regarding this particular part "This article or section contains close paraphrasing of one or more non-free copyrighted sources. Ideas in this article should be expressed in an original manner. (December 2013)", then kindly do it. Thanks, --U-droid (talk) 11:38, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
- The article remains a close paraphrasing of this news report. There is a clear conflict of interest in using Wikipedia to promote your company. The inability to recognize and properly address this concern is one that frequently occurs with individuals who create and edit articles where there is a conflict of interest. Continued use of the project to promote a business may result in a block of your account. Nobody sincerely wants to see this. That said, you need to take a step back, stop creating different registered accounts, and spend some time reading and reviewing the policies and guidelines as presented to you on your various talk pages. At this point, the lack of compliance, particularly regarding numerous user names and the conflict of interest is becoming disruptive. If you sincerely wish to participate in editing Wikipedia beyond merely promoting your own organization, I'm truly puzzled why you choose to ignore the guidance offered to you. The better course of action would be to research and add reliable and independent sources to the article to support the content. I've edited out more of the promotional content. Now, we need to add citations. Cindy(talk) 11:30, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Speedy deletion declined: File:Gary M. Burge, November 2013.jpg
Hello Cindamuse. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of File:Gary M. Burge, November 2013.jpg, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Inward links have not been updated. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 12:31, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
- I'm working with the uploader and copyright owner through OTRS regarding this image. There was some confusion in uploading. It should be deleted as redundant. Best regards, Cindy(talk) 12:38, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
- Okay. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 12:43, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Merry Christmas!
Back in 2010 you PRODded this, and it was deleted. Undeletion has now been requested at WP:REFUND, so per WP:DEL#Proposed deletion I have restored it, and now notify you in case you wish to consider AfD. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 12:04, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks John, I'll take a look and see if I can locate any new sources that may have surfaced since 2010. Hopefully, we can find something new to establish notability. Happy New Year! Cindy(talk) 12:32, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
Hello, You seemed to have not noticed an article you marked for copywrite deletion contains infact no direct copy of information. Infact, the article you used was from a possible decay link from the WSJ. Please note the REAL article http://www.mhfi.com/about/executive-team/167523815.html which the information from your cited article was taken from and WE OWN. As such, this is our fair use of our information. Still, no information is a direct copy.. there is no information that is directly used. Anything is rewritten and properly cited as you see the link above was cited several tmes for information taken. Please remove your speedy deletion ASAP - as you have infact marked a page incorrectly and inappropriately. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rustysurfing07 (talk • contribs) 13:33, 4 January 2014 (UTC) Rustysurfing07 (talk) 13:39, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, we can't use this content under fair use guidelines. However, we welcome donations in accordance with the guidelines provided on your talk page. Please note that I've added the second URL to the CSD tag, along with some information pertaining to Conflict of Interest (found on your talk page). If you have questions, please feel free to drop me a line. Cindy(talk) 13:47, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- see I disagree, If someone has information on a subject it is not a conflict. I am just writing biographical information. It is an opinion that I would be conflicted, and as you can see, it is only provided facts and information, not excess flair. Also, no one can donate information until Monday due to it being the weekend. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rustysurfing07 (talk • contribs) 13:54, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

If you must - please provide the exact copied information. I do not notice any word-for-word copies, but as such if you happen to, let me know and it will be removed from the page. Otherwise, this should be removed. Rustysurfing07 (talk) 13:51, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- In all sincerity, it doesn't really matter if you properly cite your facts and provide basic biographical information, if you use content from a source protected by copyright. Cindy(talk) 14:10, 4 January 2014 (UTC) Edited to add, if you view the template on the article, you will see a link to the "Duplication Detector", which will give you an overview of sections of copyvio text from each source. (re: (Donald James Parker) -Wiki is verifiable and now explained so more of a better understanding so therefore here you. Please DONOT DELETE PAGE. @Sbf1998:
- Thanks for contacting me! I spent quite a bit of time trying to find reliable and independent sources to support Don's notability, but came up empty. I primarily found several user-generated social and professional networking sites along with many blogs. I've requested a community discussion regarding the viability of the article. You are welcome to participate in the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Donald James Parker. At this point, all I see is that Don is a self-published author who has also worked on some independent films in various capacities. The only citation we have is to IMDb, which is not considered a reliable source, since the content is user-submitted. While I haven't been able to find anything to support notability, I'm wondering if you have additional sources you could provide. Do you have access to any more information about Don and his career that we could use to establish notability? Cindy(talk) 01:37, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
The page Ricky Lind had importance because people around the world after he died turned on their porch lights in rememberance of him. From: Emilypromqueen — Preceding unsigned comment added by Emilypromqueen (talk • contribs) 17:24, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Emily, thanks for contacting me. Please accept my apology for not responding sooner. I saw your msg while I was coming down with a migraine, so, I escaped, planning to come back later. That sounds amazing that people around the world acknowledged the life of Ricky Lind. He must have been an outstanding and inspirational person. While I may personally consider his life to be a testimony of an amazing young man who experienced tremendous heartbreak, we cannot rely on my opinion alone. In order to establish notability (as Wikipedia defines it to be), we need to find significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, his family, or associates. Are you aware of any newspaper or magazine articles about him? Books? Maybe a film about his life? If you can locate some reliable and independent sources to support notability, we can recreate the article. I would be more than happy to lend a hand in this effort. I would recommend that we create an article about Ricky in a subpage of your userspace, for example at User:Emilypromqueen/Ricky Lind. ← (Just click on this link and start writing.) Drafting your article first, before moving it to the mainspace, helps to ensure that the article is not speedily deleted before it's ready. If you need help or have questions, please don't hesitate to drop me a line anytime. More than happy to help. Best regards, Cindy(talk) 18:01, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you. I don't know a lot but if people are willing to help they can find online articles about him because of what people do now. User: Emilypromqueen — Preceding unsigned comment added by Emilypromqueen (talk • contribs) 04:14, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Books & Bytes New Years Double Issue
Volume 1 Issue 3, December/January 2013
(Sign up for monthly delivery)
Happy New Year, and welcome to a special double issue of Books & Bytes. We've included a retrospective on the changes and progress TWL has seen over the last year, the results of the survey TWL participants completed in December, some of our plans for the future, a second interview with a Wiki Love Libraries coordinator, and more. Here's to 2014 being a year of expansion and innovation for TWL!
The Wikipedia Library completed the first 6 months of its Individual Engagement grant last week. Here's where we are and what we've done:
- Increased access to sources: 1500 editors signed up for 3700 free accounts, individually worth over $500,000, with usage increases of 400-600%
- Deep networking: Built relationships with Credo, HighBeam, Questia, JSTOR, Cochrane, LexisNexis, EBSCO, New York Times, and OCLC
- New pilot projects: Started the Wikipedia Visiting Scholar project to empower university-affiliated Wikipedia researchers
- Developed community: Created portal connecting 250 newsletter recipients, 30 library members, 3 volunteer coordinators, and 2 part-time contractors
- Tech scoped: Spec'd out a reference tool for linking to full-text sources and established a basis for OAuth integration
- Broad outreach: Wrote a feature article for Library Journal's The Digital Shift; presenting at the American Library Association annual meeting
Thank you for taking on what was a tiny nothing, which I declined a speedy delete on, and making an article out of it. Hopefully, it reduces your stress during the RfA. --Bbb23 (talk) 17:10, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hey there! I appreciate the kind words. Wikipedia is my escape. I enjoy monitoring the CSDs and identifying an article I can work on in order to help establish notability. I was about to decline this A7 when you beat me to it! That's teamwork. LOL Stress? What stress? Hope you have a great day! Cindy(talk) 17:50, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
Late reply
Hadn't checked my mail for a few days... Don't forget that to pass RfA you must: be perfect and not make mistakes; acknowledge your mistakes and learn from them; do what you're there to do (but not if it upsets people who weren't involved anyway); stick to your guns, but not be inflexible and refuse to change your mind; if female, represent what some people think is the correct female attitude even though people say that that editors are editors and admins admins no matter what sex or gender they might be (if male, you must not be proud of it and edit in a male way, but if female you must be a female editor above all); find a solution to the Mongolian Bean Crisis (or the Mongolian bean crisis, or Mongolian Bean crisis or even the Mongolian bean Crisis - everyone who knows about this knows the correct spelling but can't remember what the actual problem is...). 8-) Peridon (talk) 16:46, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Adminship
It appears it is all but done. You managed to survive the gauntlet with less than one half off the opposers I had at my bludgeoning RFA, and a higher support percentage as well. While we should always take the concerns serious, don't let the fact that some expressed them bring you down. I wish you the best of luck moving forward. I assure you, you will need it. Congrats of your RfA!
Well done on your RfA! It seems that you're going to be an admin soon, though not soon enough… Anyway, congrats! Epicgenius (talk) 00:59, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
