Welcome!
Hello, ChessPlayerLev, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia

- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}}
before the question. Again, welcome! -- John of Reading (talk) 11:57, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
From the Help desk
See Wikipedia:Help desk#second AfD - another editor noticed that your AfD nomination of Murray Turnbull was not carried through correctly. The instructions for AfD nominations are here, and are quite fiddly. You might like to enable the Twinkle tool, which makes it much easier to get all the steps right. -- John of Reading (talk) 11:57, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
Morphy's article

Your recent editing history at Paul Morphy shows that you are in danger of breaking the three-revert rule, or that you may have already broken it. An editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Breaking the three-revert rule often leads to a block.
If you wish to avoid being blocked, instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to discuss the changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. You may still be blocked for edit warring even if you do not exceed the technical limit of the three-revert rule if your behavior indicates that you intend to continue to revert repeatedly.
Do you really think Fischer's comment is that special to be edit warring over it?Jasper Deng (talk) 05:19, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- I think you should ask Ihardlythinkso this question. He is the one who started edit warring over this. Incidentally, in an article about Efim Geller, he also kept reverting edits over a single word I had added, noting that Geller was Jewish. He called it "inappropriate", but was unaware that such a fact is mentioned in the biographies of every chessplayer or important person to whom it applies. Eventually, I accommodated him there and moved it to a different section. Here though, it's just ridiculous. World Champions like Steinitz, Lasker, etc. are ALWAYS mentioned as world champions the first time their names appear in an article. Ihardlythinkso's only argument why this shouldn't be the case for Fischer is supposed "name recognition". That's totally subjective. In his most recent edit, he switched it to "legendary" instead of "World Champion". Hey, why don't we use an OBJECTIVE FACT in place of a SUBJECTIVE OPINION?ChessPlayerLev (talk) 05:29, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- You don't edit war even if you believe you are right. It doesn't matter who started it, and, I have reported both of you at this page.Jasper Deng (talk) 05:34, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- In all honesty, I wasn't aware that's what I was doing. I thought I was just preserving important information on a page from someone who kept reverting it. (I thought reverting was the culprit here, not just editing) Also, I hadn't read your warning before I made my last edit. That being said, I accept responsibility, and thank you for the heads up. I will know better next time.ChessPlayerLev (talk) 05:39, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- If you make an adequate apology to the page I made the report on (in the section of my report), you might avoid a block. In a game you don't give up if you made a ? move. You admit it was a ? move and do the best thing.Jasper Deng (talk) 05:43, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- On a related note, how are such small disputes usually resolved otherwise? I realize it's small and petty, but that's one reason why I felt it might be inappropriate to bother other editors about it. ChessPlayerLev (talk) 05:57, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
