Mrs. Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode is a Nigerian legal practitioner, business consultant, development specialist, international NGO expert and human rights activist specializing in women and girls initiatives. She is a highly sought after advisor on social impact and corporate social responsibility with a deep expertise in Africa[1].
In 2001, she founded the Murtala Muhammed Foundation, a non-governmental political advocacy organization dedicated to engendering socio economic changes in honour of her late father and former Head of State, Gen. Murtala Muhammed.[2] She has several years’ practical experience in corporate and litigation matters having worked in an international law firm in her earlier career[3] and has served in prestigious banks and other financial institutions in Europe and the United States gaining specialist expertise in new ventures, business re-engineering, management and operation audits, business and financial linkages. She has well developed business advisory skills gained from her diverse work experience.[4]
Early Life and Family
Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode was born in Lagos to late General Murtala Muhammed and Mrs. Ajoke Muhammed. Her father, late Gen. Murtala Muhammed was Nigeria’s head of state in 1975 until his assassination in 1976 in a failed coup[5] and her mother, Ajoke Muhammed, a Dental Therapist by profession is an active environmental sustainability and preservation crusader and currently a vice chairman of the Murtala Muhammed Foundation.[6] She was raised partly in Lagos were she attended Queen's College, Lagos before proceeding to Queen Anne's School, U.K for her A-level and subsequently the University of Buckingham, U.K. where she obtained a LL.B (Hons) Degree. She has a Master’s in Public and International Law from King's College London (University Of London), U.K and attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos after which she was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989.As an experienced business consultant she went ahead to obtain a MBA (Finance) from the Imperial College London (University Of London) U.K. Aisha acquired several years’ practical experience in corporate and litigation matters having worked in an international law firm and subsequently moved on to other ventures including Asset Management Group Limited,[7][8] Murtala Muhammed Foundation[9] and several other organisations where she sits on their boards.
Boards, Memberships and Awards
Mrs. Oyebode currently sits on the board of a number of organizations including Lekoil Nigeria Ltd, (an Africa focused oil and gas exploration and production company with interests in Nigeria and Namibia) a which is listed on the London Stock Exchange),[10] BoConcept Nigeria Ltd,[11] Adunmadan Ltd,[12], Cambridge Growth Partners and Murtala Muhammed Memorial Botanical Gardens where she serves as a trustee & Member of Governing Council. Her wealth of experience spans several organizations and associations; Mrs Oyebode is a recipient of several awards including the award for Excellence for the advancement of Special Needs Education in Lagos State, Lagos State Justice of the Peace, Zonta International Inspirational Award for Commitment to the underprivileged in Society, African Leadership Academy Award for developing the next generation of African Leaders, Patrick Speech Centre[13] award for contributing towards the awareness and support of Autism in Nigeria amongst others.
She has acquired several professional qualifications including:

Asset Management Group Limited (AMG)
In 1991, Mrs Oyebode founded[14] Asset Management Group, AMG[15] a Nigerian based consultancy firm which provides both financial, business and project advisory services focused on the entire real estate development value chain, ranging from land acquisition to concept development to property management services.[16] She has in various capacities (including her current role as the Group Executive Officer) led the organisation to become an award winning real estate development and management company that is client driven with a reputation for delivering landmark projects.
Murtala Muhammed Foundation (MMF)
In memory of her father and to keep his legacies which stood strong during his time as Head of State, Mrs Oyebode founded the Murtala Muhammed foundation.[17] The Nigerian based non-governmental political advocacy organization is dedicated to engendering socio economic change through encouraging discourse and debate on issues pertinent to Africa’s development and programs specially focused on citizens in a democratic state of law, with specific emphasis on medium term disaster relief and management, healthcare development, education, gender based violence, child rights and household food security.[18] With several partnerships across the world, Murtala Muhammed Foundation has grown effectively to an authority in its thematic areas.[19]
Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG)
In the wake of the rise in insurgency and the kidnap of over 200 girls from their dormitory by Boko haram terrorists on April 14, 2014 in Chibok community, North East, Nigeria,[20] Mrs Oyebode has been actively involved in advocacy for the release of the kidnap girls. She leads the Lagos chapter of the movement geared towards sensitizing and galvanizing the Nigerian Government, concerned and well-meaning citizens towards speedily doing everything possible to rescue the Girls and returning them safely to their families and friends.[21]
