Song |
"Two Step" is a song by the Dave Matthews Band, released as the third single from their album Crash. It failed to chart well. When played live, the song concludes with an extended jam session. One noteworthy live version can be heard on the second disc of The Best of What's Around Vol. 1, performed at Giants Stadium on June 11, 2001. This performance has come to be known as the "Two step in the rain," as a severe lightning storm hit the area during the encore performance of "Two Step", pelting concert-goers with hail and temporarily blacking out Giants Stadium except for the stage.[1]
While "Two Step" failed to chart well upon its release as a single, the popularity of this song at live performances grew exponentially. It is often used to close a show. The lyrics at the beginning of each live performance change, often to reflect things such as weather or guest musicians.
During the band's 2008 summer tour, the song was used to open at least two shows, most notably their first-ever performance at the new Busch Stadium on June 7, in a more dramatic fashion than is typical of a Dave Matthews Band concert. Lowered video screens obscured audience members' view of the stage during the introduction, then would rise to reveal the band during the crescendo that officially kicked off the song in full force.
