As a result of the 2019–20 coronavirus outbreak, many countries and regions have imposed quarantines and/or entry bans from citizens or visitors of the most affected areas of the outbreak.
Citizens or visitors of China
Entry bans
The following countries has imposed entry bans on Chinese citizens or recent visitors to China:
- Most of the Schengen area,[1]
- Australia[2]
- India[3]
- Iraq[4][5]
- Indonesia: announced on 3 February 2020 it would ban passenger flights and also sea freight from and to China starting on 5 February and until further notice. Live animal imports and other products were banned as well.[6][7][8]
- Japan: Revoked existing visas of people coming from China, as well as effectively suspending visa issuance.[9]
- Kazakhstan[10]
- Kuwait[11]
- Malaysia
- Maldives
- Mongolia
- New Zealand: announced that it will deny entry to all travellers from China and that it will order its citizens to self-isolate for 14 days if they are returning from China.[12] Indonesia and Iraq followed by also banning all travellers that visited China within the past 14 days.[12]
- Philippines
- Russia[13]
- Singapore
- Sri Lanka
- Taiwan[14]
- Turkey: announced it would suspend all flights from China till the end of February and begin scanning passengers coming from Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and Malaysia at airports.[15][16]
- United States[17]
- Vietnam[18]
- Samoa: Has even started refusing entry to its own citizens who had previously been to China, attracting widespread condemnation over the legality of such decision.[19][20]
- North Korea: closed its borders to international tourists to prevent the spread of the virus into the country. Chinese visitors make up the bulk of foreign tourists to North Korea.[21]
- The Czech Republic: Has stopped issuing Schengen visas to Chinese citizens.[22]
- Italy: Has suspended all passenger air traffic to Italy from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. The Italian Civil Aviation Authority NOTAM says that effective 31 January, all passenger flights from China, including the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau, and Taiwan, are suspended until further notice, on request of the Italian health authorities. Aircraft that were flying to Italy when the NOTAM was published, were cleared to land.[23][24]

- Mongolia: border tightening/closures with mainland China.[25]
- Nepal: border tightening/closures with mainland China.[25]
- North Korea: border tightening/closures with mainland China.[25]
- Russia: border tightening/closures with mainland China.[25]
- Vietnam: border tightening/closures with mainland China.[25]
- United States: On 31 January 2020, the United States declared the virus a public health emergency. Starting 2 February, all inbound passengers who have been to Hubei in the previous 14 days will be put under quarantine for up to 14 days. Any US citizen who has travelled to the rest of mainland China will be allowed to continue their travel home if they are asymptomatic, but will be monitored by local health departments.[26]
- India: issued a travel advisory on 2 February 2020 that warned all people residing in India to not travel to China, suspended E-visas from China, and further stated anyone who has travelled to China starting 15 January (to an indefinite point in the future) could be quarantined.[27]
- Armenia: Has suspended visa-free travel for Chinese citizens [28]
Airline cancellations
Airlines that have cancelled all their flights to mainland China:
- Air Canada[29]
- British Airways[30][31][32]
- Lufthansa[30][31][32]
- Lion Air[30][31][32]
- Air Seoul[30][31][32]
- Qatar Airways: took the decision to suspend flights to mainland China from 3 February until further notice, due to significant operational challenges caused by entry restrictions imposed by several countries.[33] Qatar Airways is the first carrier in the Middle East to do so. An ongoing review of operations will be conducted weekly with the intention to reinstate flights as soon as the restrictions are lifted.[33]
- Egyptair: announced on 30 January 2020 a suspension of flights between Egypt and Hangzhou starting 1 February 2020 while those to Beijing and Guangzhou will be suspended starting 4 February 2020 until further notice.[34]
Citizens or visitors of Italy
Entry bans
The following countries has imposed entry bans on recent visitors to Italy:
- El Salvador: Has banned visitors coming from Italy.[35]
- North Korea: closed its borders to international tourists to prevent the spread of the virus into the country. Chinese visitors make up the bulk of foreign tourists to North Korea.[21]
Entry bans covering parts of Italy
The following countries has imposed entry bans on recent visitors to parts of Italy:
- Malaysia: New visitors travelled to Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna within the last 14 days will be denied entry to Malaysia.[36]
- Singapore: New visitors with recent travel history to northern Italy (Aosta Valley, Piedmont, Liguria, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol) within the last 14 days will not be allowed entry into Singapore, or transit through Singapore.[37]
Citizens or visitors of South Korea
Entry bans
- Australia: Foreigners that have been in South Korea will not be allowed in until 14 days after leaving South Korea.[38] Australian citizens must self-isolate for 14 days.
- El Salvador: Has banned visitors coming from South Korea following the outbreak in those countries.[35]
- Japan: Halted visa-waivers for South Korean nationals, revoked existing visas of people coming from South Korea, as well as effectively suspending visa issuance.[9]
- North Korea: closed its borders to international tourists to prevent the spread of the virus into the country. Chinese visitors make up the bulk of foreign tourists to North Korea.[21]
- Papua New Guinea: Foreigners arriving from South Korean air and seaports refused entry.[39]
- Singapore: New visitors with recent travel history to South Korea within the last 14 days will not be allowed entry into Singapore, or transit through Singapore.[37]
Citizens or visitors of Iran
Entry bans
- United States: As of March 2, foreign nationals who have traveled to Iran within the last 14 days are denied permission to travel to the US.[40] US citizens and permanent residents returning to the United States who have traveled to Iran within the previous 14 days must enter through an approved airport.[40]
- Australia: Non Australians who leave Iran must wait 14 days before entering Australia. Travelers are advised not to travel to Iran.[41]
- Germany: has banned their citizens from traveling to Iran.[42]
- Azerbaijan: has banned their citizens from traveling to Iran.[42]
- Singapore: New visitors with recent travel history to Iran within the last 14 days will not be allowed entry into Singapore, or transit through Singapore.[37]
- Malaysia: Applies to visitors who travelled to Tehran, Qom and Gilan within the last 14 days.[36]

Israel bans citizens or visitors of Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Andorra and San Marino, unless they have a proof that they have a place to self-quarantine for 14 days.[51]
According to media reports, Israel considers adding the United States, Netherlands, Belgium, Norway and Sweden to the banning.[52]
