In January 2012 Andrew Adler wrote a column recommending that, among other things, Israel defend itself against [[Iran]] by giving "the go-ahead for U.S. based Mossad agents to take out a president deemed unfriendly to Israel in order for the current vice president to take his place and forcefully dictate that the United States' policy includes its helping the Jewish state obliterate its enemies." The column refers to the [[Obama administration]]'s "never ending 'Alice in Wonderland' belief that diplomacy is the answer," evidently referring to its efforts regarding Iran. Representatives of the [[American Jewish Committee]] in Atlanta, the [[Anti-Defamation League]],the [[Simon Wiesenthal Center]] and Israeli consul-general in Atlanta denounced the column, which some read as referring to [[Barack Obama]]. A [[United States Secret Service]] spokesman stated the Service was "taking the appropriate investigative steps."<ref name=CNNJan21/> Adler received many negative responses to the column and told the [[Jewish Telegraphic Agency]] “I very much regret it, I wish I hadn’t made reference to it at all” and said his newspaper would issue an apology in the next edition.<ref>Gil Shefler, [http://www.jpost.com/International/Article.aspx?id=254592&R=R4 Atlanta Jewish newspaper calls for Obama assassination], [[Jerusalem Post]], January 22, 2012.</ref> |

The Atlanta Jewish Times is a weekly community newspaper serving the Jewish community of Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Its editor and publisher is Andrew Adler.[1]
The newspaper began publishing as the Southern Israelite in 1925.[1] In the 1980s, it was purchased by Charles "Chuck" Buerger, the owner of the Baltimore Jewish Times. Buerger died in 1996, and the paper was taken over by his son, Andrew.
In 2000, Andrew Buerger sold it, along with The Detroit Jewish News, to Jewish Renaissance Media (JRM),[2] which also operates the website Jewish.com.
In 2005, it claimed a readership of 25,000.[3]
As of 2007, Arthur M. Horwitz of Jewish Renaissance Media was the publisher and Michael Jacobs the Managing Editor. When Jacobs left the paper in 2008, Ann Marie Quill was then promoted to managing editor.
A marketing attempt to re-brand the paper to the "JT" did not take off (under JRM) and it is still known as The Atlanta Jewish Times.
On April 14, 2009, Andrew B. Adler (Metro Jewish News) acquired the Atlanta Jewish Times, with a staff of five and a subscribership of only 3,500. After his takeover the website jtonline.us ceased to be updated.
In late October 2009, the AJT moved to a new office, though they remained in the Dunwoody area. As of the end of that month, the paper's staff had expanded to 10, with new employees taken on for sports coverage and advertising coordination.
