'''Tamil Isai Sangam''' is a music association started inorder to promote pure form of ancient tamil music popularly known as the Tamil Isai throughout Tamil Nadu.It was started by Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar as he witnessed a disgraceful gesture done to M.M Dandapani Desikar at Thiruvaiyaru, when he sang a tamil ballad at that place.During his time no carnatic concerts were done in Tamil in Tamil Nadu as it was dominated by Telgu and Kannada kirthanas of thiruvaiyaaru trinity. These disgraceful fashion occured in Tamil Nadu as after the end of Tamil Kingdoms during 15th century and Tamil Nadu was mainly under the rule of foreign power such as Nayaks,Marathas,Nizams who naturally promoted their language in Tamil Music,Arts and Drama. This eventually led to the downfall of tamil in these Tamil Fine Arts.So after seeing these disgraceful things happenings in Tamil Nadu,Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar started Tamil Isai Sangam with the support of people like Dr.R.K Shanmugam Chettiar,C.Rajagopalachari,Kalki,T.K.C and C.N Annadurai in 1943 at Chennai. It is due to his majesties intrest in Tamil Isai this great feat become possible. When Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar started the Tamil Isai Sangam,He said "Music Concerts happening in Tamil Nadu must mostly be in tamil otherwise we are not aginst any language associations. This is a very just and polite aim" |
