== First year as active == |
|||
If you look at different Wikipedia language versions of this article, his years as active is listed differently on different Wikipedia languagues. In this article it says his first year as active was 1942. In the article I find only info of him being active first in 1943. It would be nice with clear info and source why he is written as first active in 1942. This could then also be used on other B.B. King articles on different languages of Wikipedia. Manual of Style
Title of this article does not conform to MOS:SPACEINITS, which prescribes periods and spaces after initials in personal names unless the subject styles themselves otherwise, so CCH Pounder. Example given is J. R. R. Tolkien. Is B.B. King an exception? My favorite reference work (Donald Clarke's Penguin Encyclopedia of Popular Music) thinks not, but "B.B." seems rusted on in Wikipedia. I'd boldly change it, but would then feel obliged to change all incoming links, and may not live that long. Doug butler (talk) 23:04, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
- Apparently so, per Talk:B.B. King/Archive 1#Requested move (2011), though this was over 12 years ago. ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 09:40, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Doug butler: I think another RM could be in order here. ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 13:08, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

B.B. King → B. B. King – It is acknowledged that most references to this musician style his name as "BB King" or "B.B. King" but not by such an overwhelming majority as to demand overriding the Manual of Style (MOS:SPACEINITS), which is quite clear on the subject, citing as an example J. R. R. Tolkien. As two examples of the requested style, see Donald Clarke Penguin Encyclopedia of Popular Music 1998 (Second edition), and the interpretive sign "A Guitar Named Lucille" (Commons file /Twist AR BB king Marker 1.jpg) Doug butler (talk) 16:10, 8 September 2023 (UTC) Doug butler (talk) 16:09, 8 September 2023 (UTC)

- Support. This is not a case like CCH Pounder where the subject has publicly insisted in a particular rendering. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 00:54, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
