Cherrypicked Response section?
Is everyone condemning the occupation? Noone in support? The Response section looks like it was made to deliberately include only the response that condemn the occupation. 2A02:85F:E058:1000:8CB0:8FDA:A957:83E9 (talk) 13:55, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose we don't have to use the official name of things, and the overall scope of this article is wider than just the encampment. Elli (talk | contribs) 22:34, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose, Gaza Solidarity Encampment redirects to this page anyways, and the scope of the article is beyond just the area of tents being that there is activity all over campus and around its perimeter as well. Evaporation123 (talk) 23:18, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose we should use the name commonly used in the sources. User:Sawerchessread (talk) 01:08, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose due to NPOV name without adequate justification, and different name used by RS. FortunateSons (talk) 07:59, 23 April 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose. I'm mostly concerned with WP:TOOSOON to use the official name, but I think there is a strong argument to be made for WP:NPOV in the name as well. InvadingInvader (userpage, talk) 15:24, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

Background could be read to mean that it's outside agitators making their way to Columbia rather than students of the university. Here's one way to clarify the situation:
− | Pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel students have | + | Pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel students have staged demonstrations at Columbia University during the Israel–Hamas war. |

As stated above in the Claims about "skunk" attack discussion topic, the claim that student protestors were attacked with an Israeli Defense Forces chemical agent ("skunk") is disputed. I propose the following clarification:
− | In January 2024, students at a pro-Palestinian demonstration on campus were | + | In January 2024, students at a pro-Palestinian demonstration on campus were sprayed with a foul-smelling substance which they claimed to be [[Skunk (weapon)|Skunk]], a chemical used for crowd control by Israeli police forces. At least three students sought medical treatment after the incident. The [[New York Police Department]] announced that that they would investigate the incident as a potential hate crime. In March, Columbia expelled the student allegedly involved in spraying the substance. In April, the student in question, a former Israeli Defense Forces soldier, filed a lawsuit against the university under the pseudonym John Doe, claiming that he had released non-toxic fart spray purchased from Amazon. At a congressional hearing on antisemitism that same month, the House Committee on Education and the Workforce presented campus posters, featuring a blue and white skunk with a Star of David on its back, as evidence of anti-Semitic harassment on campus. |

- I first raised my concern about the misinformation in this article at 04:17, 22 April 2024 (UTC), although my original discussion post on the topic has since been removed from this talk page, citing WP:ECR. I am concerned at how this article is presenting a disputed and highly provocative claim about a sensitive topic (that a pro-Israeli student had access to an IDF chemical and used it against protestors) as a proven fact, and it seems to me a violation of WP:NPOV. Almost every news article that has been written about this topic presents the claim that the students were sprayed with skunk as a claim made by the pro-Palestinian protestors -- however, this Wikipedia article currently does not use the same language, instead presenting it as proven fact, citing a relatively obscure news organization the Middle East Eye, an outlet which has its own history of controversy related to antisemitism rather than any of the other major news organizations that have chosen more moderate language to convey the non-established nature of the claim. Change title of article from "2024 Columbia University pro-Palestinian campus occupation" to "2024 Columbia University protests"
To be more in line with previous naming conventions (1968 Columbia University protests) and to better encompass the state of campus (both pro-Palestine demonstrators and pro-Israel demonstrators) Jwbc (talk) 10:54, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
