where is the town?
I have not found any town in Keriya County named Keriya. Can anyone provide any information to prove that Keriya Town exist? A full list of the subdivisions of Keriya County can be found at this website, there is no Keriya Town in it. --Neo-Jay (talk) 17:28, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi! Thanks for your note. I think the problem you are having is because in the late 19th century the previous Chinese name for Khotan (Pinyin: Hotan) 于窴 (Yutian) began to be applied instead to Keriya. So, the small town of Keriya is now called 于窴 (Yutian). It seems difficult to get much information on the present size and amenities of the town itself although the county is supposed to have a population of some 220,000. I haven't had time to do a thorough search on the internet yet, but there a couple photos taken in the town at the following website: [1] There is also a map showing a fairly large town at: [2] Hope that helps. - Thank you for your reply. But your sources are about the downtown of Keriya County (于田县). It is not Keriya Town (于田镇). I hope you can understand the difference between the two concepts. I checked the subdivision list of Keriya County. Keriya County has 2 towns and 13 townships. The towns include Mugala Town (木尕拉镇) and Xianbaibazha Town (先拜巴扎镇). There is no Keriya Town at all.--Neo-Jay (talk) 23:32, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I think this Keriya Town is just Mugala Town (木尕拉镇). See this Chinese page about the history of Keriya County. It says that the Uyghur language for Yutian County, Xinjiang is Keriya or Mugala, and the former name of Mugala Town is Keriya. Therefore, I think, Mugala Town can be called as Keriya Town. But it should be noted that the Chinese name of this town is 木尕拉 (Mugala), not 于田 (Yutian). That's why I did not find a town named Keriya (Yutian). --Neo-Jay (talk) 00:27, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
