South Dakota's 5th Senate district is one of 35 districts in the South Dakota Senate. It has been represented by Republican Lee Schoenbeck since 2019, succeeding fellow Republican Neal Tapio.[1]
Geography
The district is located within the city of Watertown in Codington County, located in northeastern South Dakota. The district is completely surrounded by the 4th district.[2]

South Dakota Senators are elected to two-year terms, with each Senator permitted to serve a maximum of four consecutive two-year terms.[3] Elections are held every even-numbered year.
