Romulan is either of two fictional languages constructed for the Romulans and Remans of the Star Trek franchise.
A language was created for the television series Star Trek: Picard. Its script is distinct from occasional glimpses of Romulan writing in earlier series. As of 2021, little information has been released about the language, though it is developed enough for dialog in the show.
Another language, Rihannsu, was created by Diane Duane for her non-canonical series of novels. In this imagining, it was an intentional creation, based on Old High Vulcan when the Romulans left Vulcan and established their own society. Duane describes it as sounding somewhat like Latin and Welsh.
