{{R from move}} #REDIRECT [[James Balderstone]] Robert Balderstone CMG MC (1921-2012)was a British Agricultural businessman who served as councillor of the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria for 41 years and president for six, from 1976 onward.[7] Robert was born on May 2, 1921, the son of James Schofield Balderstone ( The meat processor Thos. Borthwick & Sons born 1881) and Mary Essendon Taylor(born 1884) He was the identical Twin brother of Sir James Balderstone. At a young age Robert and James were both taught the values of business. Their family had two pastoral properties in the Riverina. Robert attended Scotch College, and all the while his constant companion and best friend was his twin brother. '' After attending Wagga Wagga Experiment Farm, Balderstone jackarooed at famous ''Tubbo'' station on the Murrumbidgee near Darlington Point and in 1941 joined the army, graduating from Officer Training School at Canungra that August. He served in the 2nd/6th Independent Company (''the Purple Devils''), which in 1943 became the ''Commando Squadron'', and spent much of its time in the New Guinea jungles. Shot in the arm by a Japanese sniper, the 22-year-old lieutenant's nonchalant humour surfaced when he turned to his men and demanded: ''Who did that?' After returning from the Military, Robert married Judith Sachs, the couple would go on to have five children: Simon Balderstone (founder of the Australian cannabis party born 1948), a stillborn child (1950-1950), Mary Jane Vincent (wife of Agricultural economist David Vincent born 1950), Simon Balderstone (former minister for Aboriginal affairs and co founder of the Australian Himalayan foundation born 1953) and Amanda Balderstone (born 1958). In 1980, he was awarded a Companion of the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (CMG). He served as a Marcus Oldham Agricultural College councillor (1978-84), and on various board memberships. In his later years Robert welcomed grandchildren and later great-grandchildren, the last family member he met was Billy Reside-Vincent (born 2010) who is currently in high school.
