#REDIRECT [[James Balderstone]] Robert Balderstone CMG MC (1921-2012) Was a British Agricultural businessman who served as councillor of the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria for 41 years and president for six, from 1976 onward. Robert was born on the 2nd of may 1921 to James Schofield Balderstone ( The general manager of Thomas borthwick and sons Australasia Pty Ltd, born 1881) and Mary Essendon balderstone ( born 1884) He was the Identical twin brother of Sir James Schofield Balderstone, former chairman of the AMP Society as well as Chairman of Bhp and other public companies. He and James were the youngest of six children and were both taught the value of business. Robert served in the Royal Australian Navy alongside his brother From 1940 to 1945. When he returned from the service he married Judith Sachs And they had five children: Michael Balderstone (founder and President of the Australian cannabis party born 1948), a stillborn child (1950-1950), Mary Jane Vincent ( Husband of Agricultural economist David Vincent born 1950), Simon Balderstone ( former Indigenous affairs adviser to Bob Hawke and Paul keating and co founder of the Australian himalayan foundation born 1953) and Amanda Balderstone (born 1958) In 1980, he was awarded a Companion of the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (CMG). He served as a Marcus Oldham Agricultural College councillor (1978-84), and on various board memberships.In his later years he welcomed grandchildren and later great-grandchildren the last family member he met was Billy Reside-Vincent (born 2010) who is currently in high school. Robert Taylor Balderstone died in 2012 at the age of 91. |
