On November 14, 2017, starting at approximately 7:52 a.m. PST, there were a series of shootings in the unincorporated community of Rancho Tehama Reserve in California, about 120 miles (190 kilometres) northeast of Sacramento, that resulted in five deaths, including the gunman, and ten injuries. Some of the injuries occurred at the Rancho Tehama Elementary School. Further injuries and deaths were prevented when the school went on lockdown after shots were first heard.
The gunman has been identified by the Tehama County district attorney as Kevin Janson Neal who was 43 years old. Neal was shot and killed by sheriff deputies after a brief vehicle chase in a stolen pickup truck. The 45-minute attack was spread out over seven separate crime scenes using at least one Semi-automatic rifle and two semi-automatic pistols. The motive is unclear. No children were killed.
Injured victims, including at least three children, were taken to Enloe Medical Center in Chico. California Governor Jerry Brown, and his wife Anne, offered prayers and condolences to all the victims and their families. Several of the shooter's relatives are missing, according to authorities.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]
Reactions
On November 14, 2017, United States President Donald Trump mistakenly tweeted about the wrong mass shooting.[8] The tweet was deleted eight hours after it was posted.[9]
