It commonly serves as the site of music concerts and political speeches or other gatherings. The most recent political events were the protest in order to protect the constitutional name of the Republic of Macedonia that took place on 27 February 2008 and the welcome-rally for former Macedonian interior minister Ljube Boškoski after The Hague Tribunal acquitted him of war crimes stemming from the country's 2001 conflict.[1]
