A pearl necklace is a slang term referring to a sexual act in which a man ejaculates semen on or near the neck and/or chest of another person. The result is said to look like a necklace of pearls due to the stringy translucent white clumps of semen that form there. [1][2]
This practice is sometimes referenced as an (imperfect) alternative to condoms in order to prevent HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. Jessica Cutler of Asiance magazine writes:[3]
"...I always felt uncomfortable with the presumptuous nature of the 'spit or swallow' dichotomy, as if those are my only two choices. I mean, you really can’t say, 'Actually, I would prefer a pearl necklace, please,' when you have a dick in your mouth. [...] And aren’t we supposed to be using condoms anyway? If a man is wearing a condom like he’s supposed to, then spitting and swallowing are not viable options..."
Popular culture
- The practice is the subject of the humorous, "tongue-in-cheek" song "Pearl Necklace" by the Texas rock group ZZ Top.
- The band MorissonPoe has written a song called "Pearl Necklace", which is featured as an instrumental in the end credits of the video game Perfect Dark Zero and with explicit lyrics on that video game's soundtrack CD. They have also released a music video for their song, along with a video of the release party for the music video.[4]
