The San Fernando de Dilao Church is a Roman Catholic parish located in Paco, Manila, Philippines[1], honoring Saint King Ferdinand III of Castile of Spain. Since 2011, It has been used as current temporal church by the Archdiocese of Manila, until the structural renovations of Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception are completed. The church inside is notable for its baroque interior, most notably the Latin inscriptions similar in style to Saint Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.
History
The parish, informally known as Paco Parish by its parishioners began in 1580 and was originally dedicated to Our Lady of Purification. The external name Dilao was adapted into the title due to the locality of the area though not necessarily related to Saint-King Ferdinand III of Castille. It originally was a governed church by Padre Juan de Garrobillas of the Franciscan Order. In 1908, the Belgian priests of the Congregatio Immaculati Cordis Mariae took over the parish and renovated it, continuing on its parochial legacy today. A notable devotion in the church today is the longstanding religious devotion to Nuestro Santo Padre Jesus del Sepulcro also known as Santo Entierro, more commonly known in the English language as "Jesus Christ entombed in the Sepulchre".
