Nerkin Shorzha (Armenian: Ներքին Շորժա, Azerbaijani: Aşağı Şorca, lit. 'Lower Shorzha') is a village in the Gegharkunik Province of Armenia. Nerkin Shorzha and nearby Verin Shorzha are both reached by a short drive from Ayrk.[2][3]

Shorzha or shorja means "salty" and "saline" in Azerbaijani.[4]
Demographics
The village had a population of 164 inhabitants in 1831, 584 in 1897, and 843 in 1916, consisting of Azerbaijanis, which fled after the Armenian-Azerbaijani war in 1918. Some returned in 1920 after the Soviet government was established in Armenia. The population of the village had a population of 394 inhabitants in 1922, 617 in 1931,[5] and about 1,500 in 1987, consisting of Azerbaijanis,[4] which fled the village in 1988 after the outbreak of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The village is now entirely populated by Armenians. As of 2011, the village has a population of 12.[1]
