Murdoc Faust Niccals is a fictional English bassist for the British virtual band Gorillaz. He is voiced by Phil Cornwell and was created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett.
Character appearance
Hewlett said that the character Murdoc is responsible for the majority of the creating of Gorillaz, and that he is always angry that he is not the frontman of the band,[3][4] though he is commonly seen as the band's leader. Hewlett has stated that aspects of Murdoc's appearance and personality were based on that of a young Keith Richards. In 2005, during Phase 2, Niccals burnt down the bands' home "Hey Beter Studios" and went on to go find a new home for him and the band members that was safe and private. After a long time of sailing in a boat, Niccals finally found a new location, Plastic Beach (also the name of their third studio album). He gave it the nickname Plastic Beach because it was full of trash. This is where the band would record their third album.[5]
