Mincivan (Armenian: Միջնավան, romanized: Mijnavan) is a town in the Zangilan Rayon of Azerbaijan.
History
Mincivan was part of the Zangezur Uyezd of the Elisabethpol Governorate of Russian Empire.
According to Soviet census of 1933, Mincivan town of Zangilan District of Azerbaijan SSR had 322 residents (169 men, 153 women). The entire village council (the villages of Bakharly, Dellakli, Tarakeme), whose center was Minjivan, consisted of 100% of Azerbaijanis.[2]
Mincivan had 5506 residents in 1989.[3] The city was occupied by ethnic Armenian forces in 1993 and the Azerbaijani residents of the city were deported during the Nagorno-Karabakh War. The town was then under de facto control of the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh, administrated as part of its Kashatagh Province. There were 300 people living in the town as of 2015.[1]
Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev announced control of the town on 21 October 2020.[4][5]
