Matthew Campbell (born January 30, 1964) is a former Australian rules footballer in the VFL/AFL and currently a media personality.[1]
Football career
Campbell was recruited from SANFL club North Adelaide, and made his VFL debut with the Brisbane Bears in their inaugural 1987 squad. He made a name for himself as a quick wingman, and went on to play 79 games for the club (and kick 28 goals) between 1987 and 1993. His career highlights include being selected as goalkeeper in International Rules Tests against Ireland in 1987 and 1990.
Media career
Following his retirement from VFL/AFL football, Campbell has been a prominent media personality. He is the MC at sporting events, most commonly at boxing matches, including the Anthony Mundine-Darmel Castillo fight on February 2, 2005.
Since the late 1990s, Campbell has been most noted for his Australian rules football commentary, first with the Seven Network, and today with Fox Footy. Based in Brisbane, he normally commentates AFL games involving the Brisbane Lions, but also travels interstate to commentate their away games.
In January 2006, Campbell was a replacement host on SEN 1116's Hungry for Sport program.
Campbell now commentates VFL games on ABC following the demise of Fox Footy Channel in late 2006.
