M. Fátima Montemor (born June 19, 1966) is a Portuguese researcher known for her pioneer work in suitable coatings for surface protection and functionality and energy storage devices. She is married, lives in Quinta Nova, Salvaterra de Magos and her favourite sport is running[1].

She joined the Chemical Engineering course in the academic year 1984/1985 and was graduated in the specialization field of Processes and Industry, in 1989 by Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), the school of engineering of the Technical University of Lisbon [2]. She has completed her PhD in Chemical Engineering, with distinction, in 1995 also from the Technical University of Lisbon, under the supervision of ??. Scientific career and Research
Her research objectives are focused in the area of new surface functionalization strategies and development of novel coatings, including smart self-healing coatings, for improved performance of metallic parts (steels, Mg, Zn and Al alloys) used in various sectors such as transportation (automotive and aeronautics), construction (building and off shore), biomedical (bioresorbable implants) and energy production (petrochemistry) and storage (fuel cells, hydrogen storage, hybrid batteries and supercapacitors). This strategy aims at valorising metallic materials in conventional and novel Hi-Tech applications. She is co-author of 17 book chapters, more than 250 scientific papers published in International journals and above 300 works presented in international and national congresses [6]. She accumulates Editor functions at the Elsevier Journals Applied Surface Science [7] since 2013, Surface and Coatings Technology [8] since ???, and Cement and Concrete Composites [9], and at the Springer “Emergent Materials” [10] since ???. Presently she serves as chairwoman of the TGA3 since ??, and expert of the TGS5 since 2004 committees on the Research Fund for Coal and Steel-Cordis-European Commission [11]. Expert in the European Comission from 2005 link. From 2015-2016, she took the position of President of the European Federation of Corrosion [12], and from 2016-2017, the position of President of the Board of Directors of KIC Innoenergy Iberia [13]; currently she represents IST in the administration council of this entity. M. Fátima Montemor has a great commitment in communicating science to the general public. She has been actively engaged in translating scientific achievements into publicly accessible language. M. Fátima Montemor was a deputy Director for International Affairs of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) from 2009-2016, where she was involved in the preparation of various international agreements, projects and partnerships. She was vice President for Academic Affairs for IST from 2017-2019. Since 2017 that she is a member of the management council of IST, and recently, in 2020 she began serving as vice President for Research and International Affairs of IST [2].
