MV Mavi Marmara is a Turkish passenger ship, which is owned and operated by Istanbul Fast Ferries Co. Inc. (Turkish: Istanbul Deniz Otobüleri A.Ş.) (IDO) on the line Sarayburnu, Istanbul-Marmara Island-Avşa Island in the Sea of Marmara. Its name means Blue Marmara. Built at the Golden Gate Shipyard by Turkish Shipbuilding Co. in 1994, the ship has a capacity of 1,080 passengers.[6]
MV Mavi Marmara was involved in the May 31, 2010 Gaza flotilla clash, when Israeli naval commandos stormed the ship in international waters and killed at least 9 passengers.[7] It was bound to deliver humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in blockaded Gaza Strip.
