In the weeks leading up to Lockdown, Joe did not show up on iMPACT!, because he was kayfabe training instead. At the same time, Angle fought new opponents on iMPACT each week in MMA fights. In one of these fights, Tomko and [[A.J. The secondary feud going into Lockdown was about the annual Lethal Lockdown match. Team captains announced by Jim Cornette were Tomko and Christian Cage. This feud started when Tomko turned on Cage at Against All Odds in Cage's World Heavyweight title match against Kurt Angle. Tomko entered the ring and performed a torture rack neckbreaker on Cage, which cost him his chance to win the title. Tomko decided that his teammates would be Styles and Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon). Cage decided on Rhino and Kevin Nash as his teammates. Then later on iMPACT, while Team Cage were in a brawl with Team Tomko, a promo came on showing the return of Sting. Sting returned the next week after a match between Christian Cage and Rhino vs Team 3D. Team 3D and the rest of Team Tomko where about to place Team Cage through tables. The lights went off then came back on with Sting in the ring with a baseball bat. He started swinging the bat until Team 3D, Tomko, and Styles left the ring. After this, another match was made for the night between Sting, Cage, Rhino, and Nash vs Styles, Tomko, and Team 3D in a tag match, in which Team Cage won. After the match Team Cage were celebrating their victory when James Storm attacked Sting and hit him with a beer bottle in the back of the head. The next week on iMPACT!, Matt Morgan let Team Tomko place Storm on their team. This allowed Team Cage to add another member to their Team, which turned out to be Morgan. |

Another feud going into Lockdown was between Booker T and Sharmell and Robert Roode and Payton Banks. The feud started after Booker debuted in TNA. Roode was unhappy that outsiders were coming to TNA and pushing him further down the ladder of success. Later, Roode accidentally hit Booker's wife (Sharmell) at Final Resolution. Booker and Roode then fought at Against All Odds and Destination X. After their match at Destination X, Sharmell returned and hit everyone around the ring, including Security, Roode, Payton Banks, and Jim Cornette with a leather strap. On the following iMPACT!, Cornette placed Booker T and Sharmell in a match at Lockdown against Roode and Banks. |
||
Prior to the event, Gail Kim and O.D.B were feuding with Awesome Kong and Raisha Saeed. At Destination X, Gail Kim, ODB, and Awesome Kong were involved in a Triple Threat match for the TNA Knockouts World Championship. Awesome Kong prevailed by pinning ODB after performing a Awesome Bomb after Saeed had tripped her from the outside. This caused ODB and Kim to get frustrated with Saeed, wanting a match with her because she kept costing them their chances at the championship. A match was then made to take place at Lockdown involving ODB and Gail Kim vs Saeed and Awesome Kong. |

Another feud heading into Lockdown was between former partners B.G. James and Kip James. Kip was angry that BG used his Feast or Fired briefcase, which had a Tag Team Championship match in it, with his dad instead of choosing him as his partner. At Against All Odds, BG and his dad Bob Armstrong failed in their attempt to win the Tag Team Championship in a match against AJ Styles and Tomko after a Tornado-Plex on BG to get the pin. A rematch took place on iMPACT, but BG was injured so Kip took his place in the match. During the match, Kip attacked Armstrong and BG. Later a match was made for Lockdown. |

Another match to take place at Lockdown was the annual X Division Xscape match for the TNA X Division Championship. Another match to take place at Lockdown was the annual X Division Xscape match for the TNA X Division Championship. Champion Jay Lethal defended the X Division Championship against Johnny Devine, Sonjay Dutt, Curry Man, Shark Boy, and Consequences Creed. Each man (besides Lethal) fought in qualification matches on iMPACT! to determine who would fight in the match. The first qualification match was between Curry Man and Petey Williams, which Curry Man won. The second was between Sonjay Dutt and Homicide, which Sonjay won. The third was between Johnny Devine and Alex Shelly, which Devine won. The forth was between Shark Boy and Elix Skipper, which Shark Boy won after a Chummer. The fifth was between the debuting Consequences Creed and Jimmy Rave. Creed won after a Creed-DT. |
||
2 other matches that occurred at Lockdown were the Queen of the Cage and the Cuffed in the Cage matches. In the Queen of the Cage match all of the Knockouts in the Knockouts division (with the exception of Gail Kim, ODB, Saeed, Sharmel, Payton Banks, and Awesome Kong). You had to climb up the cage and get into the ring. After 2 people have climbed the cage and gotten into the ring then a regular match will start. The participants were Christy Hemme, Rhaka Khan, Salinas, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Roxxi Laveaux, Traci Brooks, and Jacqueline all fighting for #1 Contendership to the Knockouts Championship. |
|||
In Cuffed in the Cage you had to handcuff both members of a team to the cage. After all teams were cuffed then your team won the match. The participants were The Latin American Xchange (Homicide and Hernandez), The Rock N' Rave Infection (Lance Hoyt and Jimmy Rave) , Black Reign and Rellik, Scott Steiner and Petey Williams, Super Eric and Kaz, and The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley). The winners would get a shot at the TNA World Tag Team Championship. |

The opening match was the X Division Xscape match. The match came down to champion Jay Lethal against Johnny Devine. Lethal, who was about to escape the cage and win, was graped and tied up by Devine to the ring ropes on the other side of the cage. While Devine tried to make his escape, Dutt, who was the first eliminated in the match, and Val closed the cage down and would not let the referees open it. As a result, Devine started to climb up the side of the cage. While he was climbing the cage, Dutt helped Lethal get untied from the outside of the cage. While SoCal and Dutt were stopping Devine from jumping off of the cage, Lethal ran and jumped his way through the cage door to the outside to win the match and retain the X Division Championship. |

The object of the match was to climb the cage and get into the ring. After two people climbed the cage and were in the ring, then the match would begin. The fourth event of the night was the Cuffed in the Cage match, where the objective was to handcuff both members of all the opposing teams to the cage. Before the match began, Eric Young was beaten down by Rellik and Reign. During the match, Young came out but was scared away by Reign and Rellik and went backstage. He later came back in his "Super Eric" gimmick and entered the match. In the end, YOung handcuffed Reign last to the cage after everyone else was handcuffed to win the match for him and Kaz. Because of their victory, Super Eric and Kaz earned a TNA World Tag Team Championship match. |

The fifth match was a tag team match between Gail Kim and O.D.B. versus Raisha Saeed and TNA Knockouts Champion Awesome Kong. Kong dominated most of the match, but ODB won after performing a splash on Saeed to get the pin. The sixth match to occur was a mixed tag team match between Booker T and Sharmell versus Robert Roode and Payton Banks. The match was to begin with Team Captains Christian Cage and Tomko, but instead AJ Styles hit Cage from behind with a springboard flying forearm while Cage was waiting for Tomko to make his ring entrance. The match began, and a member from each team would enter every minute and a half. The feud between Joe and Angle continued on iMPACT!. |
The feud between Joe and Angle continued on iMPACT!. Angle claimed to have a rematch clause in his contract during a segment between Joe and Scott Steiner, who was set to have a match at Sacrifice against the TNA World Heavyweight Champion. Joe and Angle fought again on the April 27 2008 edition of iMPACT! for the World Heavyweight Championship. Joe won after a Muscle Buster and after Steiner hit Angle with a lead pipe. Because of the controversy of Steiner costing Angle his match, Management Director Jim Cornette made the TNA World Heavyweight Championship match at Sacrifice a Triple Threat match between Joe, Steiner, and Angle. The match, however, never happened because Angle got a legitimate injury during a match in Japan. Cornette said the Triple Threat would still happen even though Angle was injured. He then stated that the winner of TNA's debuting match, the TerrorDome, would take Angle's place in the match. Kaz won the TerrorDome and Angle's place in the match. |

The X Division Champion Jay Lethal later lost the title to Petey Williams because of Williams cashing in his Feast or Fired Briefcase, which had a X Division Championship match in it to be used whenever he seemed fit. |

Styles and Tomko]] defended the titles against The Latin American Xchange and Kaz and Eric Young, which Kaz and Young won when Young left the match and returned in his "Super Eric" gimmick. Because of the controversy, Styles claimed that Young and Super Eric were two different people. As a result, Jim Cornette vacated the tag titles and set up a tournament to crown the new tag team champions called The Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament. The tournament had eight established tag teams fight against each other, but only four teams moved on to the tournament to fight eight single wrestlers that were to be placed together as a tag teams. The eight single wrestlers were called the "Egotistical Eight" and were Robert Roode, Booker T, Sting, Matt Morgan, James Storm, B.G. James, Kip James, and Awesome Kong. They made up four teams: Booker T and Roode, Sting and Storm, Kip and Morgan, and BG and Kong. The four established teams to move on were Team 3D, Christian Cage and Rhino, The Latin American Xchange (LAX), and A.J. Styles and Super Eric (Super Eric was a replacement for Tomko who had been kayfabe injured in Japan). LAX won the tournament in the finals against Team 3D. |
||
At Sacrifice, there was a Battle Royal/Ladder match held to crown the Number 1 contender to the Knockouts Championship. On iMPACT, Jim Cornette announced that he was tired of the TNA Knockouts complaining and acting like Divas. So he decided to make a match he called the TNA Knockout Makeover Battle Royal. The winner got a shot at the TNA Knockouts Championship and the loser would get her head shaved bald. On the iMPACT before Sacrifice, Gail Kim won immunity from having her head shaved. The winner of the match was Kim, with help from Angelina Love and Velvet Sky, who assisted Kim so Love would not have her head shaved. The loser was Roxxi Laveaux, and because of the pre-match stipulation, Laveaux had to have her head shaved bald. |

Also, Team 3D went after the new World Tag Team Champions, LAX. |

After Lockdown TNA debuted the Terrordome at Sacrifice 2008. Which was a Steel barred cage with a domed roof. The way to win was to climb out of the small hope in the ceiling. The winner would get a TNA X Division Championship match in the future. Before the match began Jim Cornette announced that the winner would take Angle's place in the TNA title match. The winner was Kaz who went on to fail in the main event. He will get his X Division title match at Slammiversary 2008 against Champion Petey Williams. |

Background
The main feud heading into Lockdown was between Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe, with the two battling for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. This feud restarted after Management Director Jim Cornette announced that Joe would fight Angle for the title at Lockdown. During the weeks leading up to Lockdown, Joe said that if he did not win the title at Lockdown, he would quit professional wrestling forever. In the weeks leading up to Lockdown, Joe did not show up on iMPACT!, because he was kayfabe training instead. At the same time, Angle fought new opponents on iMPACT each week in MMA fights. In one of these fights, Tomko and A.J. Styles switched back and forth every sixty seconds to fight Angle.
Event
Before the event, there was a thirty minutes pre-show which aired promos and hyped the main matches on the card. As a tradition of the annual pay-per-view, every match took place inside Six Sides of Steel, a cage surrounding the ring.
The opening match was the X Division Xscape match. The match came down to champion Jay Lethal against Johnny Devine. Lethal, who was about to escape the cage and win, was graped and tied up by Devine to the ring ropes on the other side of the cage. While Devine tried to make his escape, Dutt, who was the first eliminated in the match, and SoCal Val closed the cage down and would not let the referees open it.
The Queen of the Cage match, which occurred next, included Christy Hemme, Rhaka Khan, Salinas, Angelina Love, Velvet Sky, Roxxi Laveaux, Traci Brooks, and Jacqueline. The object of the match was to climb the cage and get into the ring. After two people climbed the cage and were in the ring, then the match would begin. The two competitors that were the first to climb the cage where Angelina Love and Roxxi Laveaux. Laveaux won by pin after a Voodoo Drop. Since Laveaux won the match, she became #1 contender to the TNA Women's Knockout Championship.
The third match was between rivals, and former partners, B.G. James and Kip James. BG won the contest with a roll-up pin.
The fourth event of the night was the Cuffed in the Cage match, where the objective was to handcuff both members of all the opposing teams to the cage.
Booker and Sharmell won the match when Sharmel rolled Banks up to get the pin and the victory for her and her husband.
The seventh match was the 5 on 5 tag team Lethal Lockdown match between Team Cage and Team Tomko. Team Tomko was comprised of Tomko, A.J. Styles, James Storm and Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon). Team Cage was comprised of Christian Cage, Rhino, Kevin Nash, Sting, and Matt Morgan. The match was to begin with Team Captains Christian Cage and Tomko, but instead AJ Styles hit Cage from behind with a springboard flying forearm while Cage was waiting for Tomko to make his ring entrance. The match began, and a member from each team would enter every minute and a half. At the end of the match, Rhino hit Storm from his right side with a Gore, to pin him for the victory for Team Cage. Meanwhile, Cage and Styles had just fallen through a table from a ladder on the top of the cage.
The main match of the card was a MMA fight between Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe for Angle's TNA World Heavyweight Championship. For the first few minutes it was a MMA styled fight, but it quickly changed into a technical bout. The stipulation for this match was that if Joe lost, then he would retire from professional wrestling. At the end of the match, Joe placed Angle on the top rope and performed the Muscle Buster on him. He then pinned Angle for the victory and his first World Championship. This marked Joe's first reign as TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
Aftermath
On iMPACT, World Tag Team Champions A.J. Styles and Tomko defended the titles against The Latin American Xchange and Kaz and Eric Young, which Kaz and Young won when Young left the match and returned in his "Super Eric" gimmick.
The Team Cage and Team Tomko feuded slowly died down afterwards. Cage and Rhino formed a tag team and went after the World tag titles in the Deuces Wild tag tournament. Meanwhile, Styles and Tomko broke up and styles turned face. Also, Team 3D went after the new World Tag Team Champions, LAX.
