Exo (/ˌɛks ˈoʊ/ EKS-oh; Korean: 엑소), stylized as EXO, is a South Korean-Chinese boy band produced by S.M. Entertainment that debuted in 2012. Exo comprises twelve members who are separated into two subgroups, Exo-K and Exo-M. The former releases music in South Korea, while the latter promotes music in mainland China. Exo's name was taken from exoplanet,[1] a term referring to planets outside of the Solar System.

- Baekhyun - Main Vocalist
- Chanyeol - Main Rapper, Sub-Vocalist
- D.O - Main Vocalist

Suho
Suho (Korean: 수호; Hanja: 守護) is the leader of Exo-K.[2] Born Kim Joon-myeon (Korean: 김준면; Hanja: 金俊勉) on May 22, 1991 in Seoul, South Korea, he has a brother four years older than him. Suho was an active student and earned good grades during grade school – he was the class president at his primary school and the vice chairman at his high school.[3] He was the first Exo member to become an S.M. Entertainment trainee at sixteen years old,[4] and was discovered through the company's street casting system, the S.M. Casting System, in 2006. In 2007, Suho was cast as an extra in the Super Junior film, Attack on the Pin-Up Boys, and in 2008, he made a brief appearance in TVXQ's music video, "HaHaHa Song" with fellow Exo bandmates Kai and Chanyeol.
On February 15, 2012, Suho was introduced as the tenth member of Exo.[5] Pursuing a degree in acting, he currently attends Korea National University of Arts and is ranked in the top 50 of 400 students at the school.[6] He enjoys listening to funk rock and has expressed his admiration for Super Junior's leader, Leeteuk, and TVXQ's leader, U-Know Yunho.[7]
Baekhyun
Byun Baek-hyun (Korean: 변백현; Hanja: 邊伯賢), more often credited as simply Baekhyun, is the lead vocalist of Exo-K.[8] Born on May 6, 1992 in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, Byun has one older brother, Byun Baek-beom,[citation needed] who is seven years his senior.[3] A former pupil of Jungwon High School, Byun was a member of the school's band and attended numerous musical festivals, later winning an award at a local rock festival prior to joining S.M. Entertainment in 2011 through the S.M. Casting System.[9] Byun was studying for his college musical entrance exams when he joined the label.[4]
Byun was the last member to join Exo,[3] and was revealed as the group's ninth member on January 30, 2012.[10] Byun has cited Rain as one of his main influences and hopes to emulate Rain's "well-rounded" success.[9]
Chanyeol
Park Chan-yeol (Korean: 박찬열; Hanja: 朴燦烈), more often credited as simply Chanyeol, is the main rapper[11] of the group. Park, born on November 27, 1992 in Seoul, South Korea, has one older sister three years his senior, Park Yu-ra,[3] who works as a CBS news reporter.[citation needed]
Park attended Hyundai Chungun High School in Dong-gu, Ulsan and was admitted to a private acting institution when he was sixteen years old.[4] Park has been a fan of musical instruments since his primary school years. He has cited the film School of Rock to be his main influence in inspiring him to learn the drums.[4] He can also play the guitar, the bass guitar, and the djembe.[12]
During middle school, Park formed the band "Heavy Noise" with his close friends.[3] After winning second place in a televised uniform modeling contest in 2008,[13] Park successfully auditioned for S.M. Entertainment through the S.M. Casting System. During this time, he was involved in school's band, "Seiren."[3] Park made several media appearances prior to his debut with Exo–he appeared in TVXQ's music video, "HaHaHa Song" with Suho and Kai in 2008, and in 2010, he starred in the music video of Girls' Generation Japanese single, "Genie".
Park was the twelfth and last member of Exo to be formally introduced to the public, on February 23, 2012. He cites Jason Mraz and Eminem to be his biggest influences.[14] Park guest starred in the second episode of the 2013 sitcom, Royal Villa, with Sehun.
D.O.
D.O. (Korean: 디오) is the lead vocalist of Exo-K.[15] Born Do Kyung-soo (Korean: 도경수; Hanja: 都暻秀) on January 12, 1993 in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, D.O. has one older brother who is three years his senior.[3] D.O. has been singing since primary school and was an avid participant in local singing competitions throughout his high school career. In 2010, he was recommended to audition for S.M. Entertainment after winning at a local singing festival.[16] He subsequently became an S.M. Entertainment trainee during his last two years of high school.[3] He performed Na Yoon-kwon's "Anticipation" and Browneyed Soul's "My Story" at his S.M. audition.[16] He collaborated with fellow label-mate girl group f(x) as a guest on the song "Goodbye Summer" from their second album Pink Tape.
D.O. was formally introduced as the eighth member of Exo on January 30, 2012.[10] His stage name is derived from his family name, Do.[17] He sees Yoo Young-jin, S.M.'s music producer, as his role model.[18]
Kai
Kai (Korean: 카이) was Kim Jong-in (Korean: 김종인; Hanja: 金鍾仁) on January 14, 1994 in Seoul, South Korea. He has two older sisters, respectively five and nine years his senior.[3] The second Exo member to sign with S.M. Entertainment, Kai joined the company after winning in the 10th S.M. Youth Best Contest in 2007, at thirteen years old. He said that it was Shinhwa who inspired him to be a singer.[16]
Known as the group's "lead" dancer, Kai has been dancing since he was eight years old and was trained in jazz dance and ballet. He stated that his parents initially wanted him to learn Taekwondo and the piano, but he quickly lost interest in both. After watching The Nutcracker when he was in fourth grade, Kai expressed his wish to study ballet professionally. He developed his current technical expertise of hip hop, popping, and locking after joining S.M. Entertainment.[16] In 2008, Kai made a brief appearance in TVXQ's music video, "HaHaHa Song" along with Exo-K's Suho and Chanyeol.
Kai was the first of twelve Exo members to be formally introduced to the public through teaser trailers. His first teaser was released on December 23, 2011.[19] He appeared in twelve more trailers released in the next three months, and had his first televised performance with Exo-M's Lu Han, Chen and Tao on SBS's Gayo Daejun event on December 29, 2011. Kai graduated from School of Performing Arts Seoul in early 2012.
Kai is also associated with the promotional singing group, Younique Unit, with Exo-M's Lu Han, and S.M. Entertainment's dance group, S.M. The Performance, with Exo-M's Lay.
Sehun
Oh Se-hun (Korean: 오세훈; Hanja: 吳世勳), more often credited as simply Sehun was born on April 12, 1994 in Seoul, South Korea, and has one older brother three years his senior.[3] Oh was scouted by a casting agent on the streets when he was twelve, and was finally cast into S.M. Entertainment in 2008, after going through four auditions in two years. On January 10, 2012, he was introduced as the fifth member of Exo.[20] Oh made a brief appearance in Girls' Generation-TTS's music video for "Twinkle" alongside fellow members Baekhyun, Chanyeol, and Kai. He graduated from the School of Performing Arts Seoul in February 2013. Oh guest starred in the second episode of the 2013 sitcom, Royal Villa, with Chanyeol.
