Laudato Sii (" Blessed are You ") is the second encyclical of Pope Francis. The encyclical on the subject of ecology and creation will be published on 18 June[1]. The encyclical is reportedly to be given the title "Laudato Sii," a quotation from a popular prayer of St. Francis of Assisi praising God for the creation of the different creatures and aspects of the Earth.
History
Pope Francis had announced that it will create an environmental encyclical shortly after his selection. The first draft was prepared by the Council " Justitia et Pax ", many church leaders as the Bishop Erwin Kräutler Amazon contribute to the draft. After repeated revision , the Secretariat of State (in view of the political implications ) and the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (because of the theological positions ) the final version was ready in March 2015. Since then the document will be translated into different languages.
The phrase "Laudato Sii" reoccurs several times in St. Francis' Canticle of the Sun, a prayer that praises God first by thanking God for such creations as "Brother Fire" and "Sister Water." Written around the year 1224, the prayer is also recognized as one of the first published works of literature in the Umbrian dialect of the then-developing Italian language as opposed to Latin.
The encyclical is also expected to be given the Italian subtitle: “Sulla cura della casa comune,” (On the care of the common home)[2].
