Each year, students partake in various events around the school. Some of these events include the Grad Committee's Dodgeball Derby; various dances put on by Student Council; The spring Multicultural show "Diggin' the Roots"; the 30 hour famine; Matheson's Got Talent (formerly Matheson Idol) and BYOB day (Bring Your Own Banana day, where students receive a free ice cream sundae). In recent years the school's Theatre Company has done three One Act Plays in December and a larger full length production in the spring. The schools band programme goes on a trip each year. Every second year they go to Banff and Edmonton for 6 days with the Senior Band class and ever other year they go on a bigger trip (past locations have included New York City, Disneyland and Cuba). Also, each year the Physics 11 class is responsible for constructing racecars completely designed out of cardboard to compete in an annual physics car race. Each Friday during the second class of the day students take time to watch "Matheson on the Move" a unique weekly news broadcast presented by volunteers and Mr.Killawee's Media Services 8 class. |
