Bosnia and Herzegovina
In February 2012, Bosnian city Sarajevo unveiled memorial to the victims.[6]
Germany
Khojaly Massacre Memorial in Berlin is in the area of a reading garden of Gottfried Benn Library in Steglitz-Zehlendorf borough. Azerbaijani artists, Akif Asgarov, Ali Ibadullayev and Salhab Mammadov are sculptors of the monument.[7] Ibrahim Akhrari, an Azerbaijani artist and sculptor living in Berlin, was the initiator and co-author of the monument. Unveiling ceremony of the monument was held on May 30, 2011.[8]
Mexico
In August 2012, another statue unveiled in Mexico City's Tlakskoake-Khojaly square, which is also named after this event.[9]
Controversy
In November 2012, "a Mexican advisory commission said authorities had erred by accepting money to allow a foreign government to essentially decide which political figures or historic events should be commemorated in Mexico City’s public spaces." Adding that "a plaque on the monument calling the Azerbaijani deaths "genocide" was misleading." Recommending that authorities take action,[10] it was decided that the word genocide was to be removed and replaced with massacre.[11][12]
Netherlands
The Khojaly Massacre Memorial is a monument in Kamperfoeliestraat Park, Hague, Netherlands. The memorial was erected and unveiled on February 24, 2008 at an initiative of Azerbaijani Diaspora in Holland. The opening of the monument was conducted by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Holland.[13]
Turkey
Another memorial was built in Ankara, Turkey.[14][15] In 2011, municipalities of Turkish cities Isparta, Adana, Uşak and Çanakkale also approved proposal for a memorial to the victims of Khojaly massacre.[16][17][18][19] On February 2014 the ceremony of opening the monument to the victims of the Khojaly massacre has been held in the city of Ushak of Turkey.[20][21][22]
