Keshav R. Murugesh is the Group Chief Executive Officer of WNS Global Services, a NYSE listed company in the Business Process Management (BPM) business. He is also the Chairman of the NASSCOM BPM Council.[1][2][3]
Early life and education
Murugesh was born in Chennai.[citation needed] His father, M. K. Murugesh, is a Ranji Trophy cricketer, who represented Madras and was a key member of the team that won the Ranji trophy for the first time ever, in 1955, for Madras as part of Balu Alaganan's team.[4][failed verification] Keshav’s mother, Arati Murugesh was the first manager of the first Indian Women’s cricket team.[5][failed verification]
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.[6][7]
Career
Murugesh started his career in 1989 with the Internal Audit department at ITC Limited, a diversified conglomerate. He worked in various departments and businesses in ITC. He became its Vice President, Finance.[6]
Murugesh joined Syntel Inc. as CFO in 2002, became its President and COO in 2004 and CEO in early 2009.[8]
In February 2010, Murugesh joined WNS Global Services as its CEO.[7]
Awards
Murugesh received the CA Business Leader of 2013 Award in the corporate sector by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI)[9] and is a recipient of the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award 2015 [10]
He is also a recipient of the Social Entrepreneurship award at Asia's Best CSR Practices Awards 2011 for outstanding contributions as an entrepreneur to society.[11]
Industry Initiatives
Murugesh spearheads NASSCOM’s efforts to re-brand the outsourcing industry from business process outsourcing (BPO) to business process management (BPM). [12] The re-branding is a reflection of the high-end work that BPM companies are now undertaking and creating a profound impact on the client’s businesses. In September 2015, Murugesh announced the launch of a pan-India high-voltage campaign called ‘Become World Worthy’[13] , showcasing the specialist careers that the BPM industry can offer.Murugesh has also begun a program for college students to improve their employability. [14]The program focuses on tier 2 and tier 3 cities in India and aims to train 1000 students in the next six months.
