The term Girllover refers to an adult pedophile, usually male, with an attraction to underage girls, including prepubescent children and young adolescents; the attraction is generally motivated by desire for sexual interaction and may also include a desire for romantic friendship.[2][3] According to the Australian Institute of Criminology, the term is used by websites that display pedophile material and "self-proclaimed an emotional or sexual interest in children (for example, Girl-lover, Boy-lover, “pedo” stories, binaries or sex newsgroups)." [3] According to ABC News, the term is used by "Pedophile-Run" websites with the intention of attracting underage girls. ABC News reports an interview with an operator of such a website, who told them that the pink and purple colors and graphics of the so-called girllover logo displayed on the website are "meant to attract young girls, including those younger than 13, to his site so he could communicate with them."[2]
The operator of the "Puellela (Latin for little girl')" website also told ABC News that he "distinguishes between 'selfish' child molesters and 'girllovers,' who he describes as "interested in a complete relationship".[2] Innocence In Danger, the website of the International Child Protection Movement, states that self-proclaimed users of the term "Girl lover" (and the related term "Boy lover") describe themselves as interested a loving and caring approach to their relationship with children, and consider that different than the violent or coercive approach as used by child molesters. However, the Innocence In Danger website states that the term "Girl lover" (and the similar term "Boy lover"), "has precisely the same root meaning as paedophile" and that despite the benign self-views of the people using the term, the underlying belief "results in the real sexual abuse of children".
