Elisa Jimenez is an interdisciplinary artist, primarily in fashion design but also including writing, drawing, painting, performance art, and art installation. Her main ongoing project is called "The Hunger World": a world of marionettes ranging from 2 inches to 30 feet in height.
Jimenez is the daughter of sculptor Luis Jiménez and graphic designer Vicky Balcou, grew up in a creative atmosphere. By the age of five, she was sewing doll clothes and fixing her own hems. After her father's sudden death in 2006, Jimenez moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico from New York City.
Vogue discovered Jimenez as "the scoop" and consistently has acknowledged her as being at the forefront of the new avant-garde as well as one of the top 10 American Designers in the independent realm.[1] Her designs have appeared in the pages of Harper's Bazaar,[1] Elle,[1] Dutch,[1] Black Book,[1] Paper Mag,[1] Jane,[1] and Trace.[1]
Her celebrity work includes Melissa Auf Der Maur,[citation needed] Cher's "Believe" album,[citation needed] Jennifer Connelly's character in Requiem for a Dream,[citation needed] Marisa Tomei,[citation needed] Courtney Love,[citation needed] Sarah Jessica Parker,[citation needed] Sex in the City,[citation needed] Pink,[citation needed] Cameron Diaz,[citation needed] and art photographer Cindy Sherman.[citation needed] Jimenez was invited to be in the Barbican Gallery's exhibit and book Rapture: Art and Fashion Since the 1970's, curated by Chris Townsend of London.[citation needed]
She is a contestant on the fourth season of Project Runway, a Bravo reality show in which designers compete against each other in various fashion challenges to win $100,000 to create their own fashion line. Jimenez had been picked to appear on the first season of the show but opted out to avoid separating from her young daughter and because of a business scheduling conflict. [1]
