Deportivo Italia (1958-2010) is related to the golden era of the football team of the Italian community in Caracas (Venezuela). The golden era lasted mainly from 1968 to 1978, with the top result when happened the famous victory of Little Maracanazo in 1971.
History
The team Deportivo Italia was founded in 1948, but only between 1958 and 2010 it obtained historical results in soccer matches done in the Venezuela championships and in the international arena (like with the famous Little Maracanazo of 1971[1]).
In those years the Deportivo Italia was five times Champion of Venezuela (in 1961, 1963, 1966, 1972 and 1999) and 8 times Sub-champion. Deportivo Italia also won the "Cup of Venezuela" 3 times (in 1961, 1962 and 1970).
In 2010 the team was ordered by the Venezuelan government to be "nationalized" and so it changed name to Deportivo Petare": actually it has lost the Italian fans and since then it is playing in second & third level championships. In 2020 is facing a huge crisis and probably will disappear soon.
