Daniel Raja is a politician and the member of Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu. He is from the Communist Party of India (CPI) and he is the general secretary of the party from July 2019. He was the National Secretary of the Party from 1994 to 2019.[1][2][3] [4]

Political life
During college days, D.Raja joined All India Students Federation and became active in student politics. Later he became a leader of All India Youth Federation and was the State Secretary of Tamil Nadu unit from 1975 to 1980. Later he was elected as General Secretary of All India Youth Federation National council, from 1985 to 1990. He became the National Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) in 1994 and continued in that post till 2019. In 2019 July 21, the National council of CPI elected him as the General secretary of the party.
D Raja was first elected to Rajya Sabha in July 2007, from Tamil Nadu and was re-elected in 2013. He was member of various Parliamentary committees including Committee on Science and Technology, committee on Environment and Forests, Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Joint Parliamentary Committee on Security Matters in Parliament House Complex, Committee on Rules, General Purposes Committee, Parliamentary Forum on Global Warming and Climate Change, Committee on Ethics, Committee on Home Affairs Member, Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Consultative Committee for the Ministry of External Affairs, Joint Committee on Food Management in Parliament House Complex, Select Committee to examine the Commercial Division of High Courts Bill, Committee on Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), Sub-Committee to examine various provisions of the Enemy Property (Amendment & Validation) Second Bill, Committee on Home Affairs, Committee on Health and Family Welfare etc.
He visited more than 25 foreign countries as part of political and official delegation.[7] [8]
Personnel life
During his AIYF days, he met Aniamma, a women AIYF leader from Kannur, Kerala. They fall in love and got married on 7 January 1990 in a simple non-religious communist wedding function. Annie Raja is now the General Secretary of National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW), the women wing of CPI. They got a daughter Aparajitha Raja, who is doing her PhD in political science at Jawaharlal Nehru University. [9]
