Lt. Colonel Kumarappa [1] (B.Ratnapalan), of LTTE was taken into custody by SL Navy along with 16 others in the mid sea, they were brought to SL Army base in Palali. When SL Army attempted to take them to Colombo for interrogation, Colonel Pulendran, Colonel Kumarappa and 10 others committed suicide on 05.10.1987.
This incident happened two months after the Indian Peace Keeping Force arrived in the northeast of Sri Lanka under the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord. LTTE claims him to be one of the 'foundation stones' [2] of Tamil Eelam.
