Sometimes referred to by his character name "Tanner" during his teenage years[citation needed]. In a 1998 Los Angeles Times article, it was noted that he was working in a flower shop in Utah[citation needed]. The article also talked about Barnes' belatedly collecting some savings bonds being held by the California courts that he had earned during his acting career under the Coogan Law[citation needed] .
There is sometimes confusion[citation needed] between Christopher J. Barnes and another actor named Chris Barnes who appeared in the Seinfeld episode "The Pez Dispenser" in 1992 and later in the TV series Life with Bonnie; they are not the same person[citation needed].
