Charlie Zeleny is an American drummer, music director, producer and solo artist most popular for his work playing duo with Jordan Rudess from Dream Theater and his drum duet work with Terry Bozzio for The Drum Channel. He also gained notoriety playing a nonstop one take 8-minute drum solo called Drumageddon Brooklyn through an entire Brooklyn building on drums placed strategically throughout different rooms, stairwells, elevators and ending the solo all the way up on the rooftop. Charlie Z followed the video up with Drumageddon Manhattan performing a one take drum solo similarly all across Times Square NYC and Drumageddon Queens where he battled four other versions of himself in front of the Unisphere Globe in one take. Zeleny has also toured 41 US states, 20 countries and is on 135+ records and was an original member of progressive metal bands Blotted Science and Behold the Arctopus. He is also known by his solo artist persona DRMAGDN: Cyborg/Drummer DJ where he simultaneously plays drums while performing EDM originals and live remixes.
Early life
Zeleny was born September 18, 1981 in Northern New Jersey. Zeleny first entered the world of drumming through grammar school concert band when he was just 7 years old and switched to drumset for the school jazz band shortly after at the age of 10 years old.[1] After taking jazz and countless other music courses and lessons in middle & high school, Zeleny graduated and attended Drew University, where he majored in music performance.[2]
In addition to his normal studies, Zeleny was the founder and head of Drew's jazz music department for the full three years of his higher education and produced, directed and music directed his own production of the musical Godspell raising $5,000 for charity.[3] During his time in high school and in college, Zeleny was fortunate to study privately under drum instructors Tommy Igoe, Nick Scheuble, Joe Bergamini and John Riley before being accepted to graduate school for jazz drumset performance at New York University. He did not attend but decided to become a professional musician instead.
Professional music career
Since becoming involved in the music scene, Charlie Zeleny has toured 41 US states, in 20 countries and on over 135 records while working with countless musicians across numerous genres, bands and projects.[4] Unsatisfied to be contained in one genre of music, Zeleny has learned to accurately play many different styles as a versatile and working session drummer including pop, rock, jazz, fusion, progressive metal, hip hop, funk, R&B and electronic music.[5]
In playing with such versatility, Zeleny has been able to perform with such diverse acts as Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess as well as playing drum duets with master drummer Terry Bozzio for The Drum Channel.[6] He has also played with Latin pop star Thalia[7] and Euro pop star Gala[8] in addition to Warner Bros hiphop artists Outasight[9] & XV in addition to Broadway & Glee Star Kristin Chenoweth (Sony Music).[10]
He has played jazz at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Iridium Jazz Club and on the Rock of Ages Broadway show. He has played classic rock with Deep Purple and Rainbow's lead singer Joe Lynn Turner plus Steve Augeri of Journey fame and Derek St. Holmes from the Ted Nugent Band.[4][11] He has also played with prog and metal bands Suspyre, Kayo Dot, Mythodea, Anuryzm, Whiplash and with classical violin & guitarist The Great Kat.[1]
Besides his work as a session drummer, Zeleny was an original member of the group Behold...The Arctopus as well as internationally acclaimed band Blotted Science, featuring Ron Jarzombek of Spastic Ink and Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse.[6]

Zeleny played drums through multiple floors, hallways and up the freight elevator of the building without stopping using multiple four separate complete drumsets along with five Protools recording rigs. Stage hands dressed as different characters brought Zeleny to and from each drumset in the 8-minute Drum Solo video and a single HD camerman followed him up the building in one continuous shot.
