A Marijuana Dispensary is a physical location, typically a retail store front or office building, in which a person can purchase cannabis for medical or recreational use.
In a traditional medical marijuana dispensary set-up, a patient receives cannabis as medication as per prescription or order form. In 2014 Colorado became the first state in the nation to allow recreational marijuana dispensaries. These stores are similar to alcohol retailers in that any adult may enter and purchase cannabis from these operators.
