Bus 174 (in Portuguese, Ônibus 174) is a documentary movie made in 2002 about the famous bus hijacking that occured in Rio de Janeiro two years previously. A poor black person (Sando do Nascimento) bungled a robbery and wound up holding the passengers on a bus hostage for four hours. The whole event was caught live on television.
The movie explains this incident and what life is like in the slums and favelas of Rio de Janeiro and how the criminal justice system in Brazil treats the lower classes. The standoff ends with footage of the police killing the hostage-taker after he surrendered.
