The alleged murderer Mohammed Bouyeri from Hofstad Network killed Gogh in fit of rage.[2] The reason for murdering Gogh was to oppose the most controversial film Submission. Bouyeri shot Gogh from very far range and close range, moreover he slit Gogh's throat with a knife and attached a 5 letter page in Gogh's chest with a combat knife. Bouyeri was chased by Dutch police after shooting a bullet in Bouyeri's leg. Bouyeri was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment with no parole. Bouyeri implied, he doesn't have any regret for killing Gogh. [3]

Gogh was rested in Amsterdam on 9 November, 2004. Gogh's son claimed that many assassination attempts were made but Gogh refused to take a police protection.
Hirsi's Hiding
Sooner after Gogh's assassination, Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Geert Wilders went into hiding. This is because Bouyeri gave death threats to Hirsi albeit she is writer for the film. .[4][5]
