Arni is a municipality in the district of Konolfingen in the canton of Berne in Switzerland.
History
Arni is first mentioned in 1185 as Arne.[3]
Geography
Arni has an area of Template:Km2 to mi2. Of this area, 68.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 25.6% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 5.4% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.1%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).[4]
The municipality includes the village of Arni, the industrial center of Arnisäge and the hamlets of Lütiwil and Roth.
Demographics
Arni has a population (as of 2007) of 987, of which 3.1% are foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has decreased at a rate of -3%. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks German (97.0%), with Serbo-Croatian being second most common ( 0.6%) and French being third ( 0.5%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 61.6% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the local small left-wing parties (9.2%), the Green Party (8.3%) and the SPS (8.2%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 28.4% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 57.3% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 14.3%. The entire Swiss population is generally well educated. In Arni about 78.4% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either University or a Fachhochschule).
Arni has an unemployment rate of 0.95%. As of 2005, there were 163 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 61 businesses involved in this sector. 49 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 15 businesses in this sector. 38 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 12 businesses in this sector.[4] The historical population is given in the following table:[3]
