Alive or Just Breathing is the second studio album by American metalcore band Killswitch Engage. It was released on May 21, 2002 through Roadrunner Records. It is the last album to feature vocalist Jesse Leach before his return in 2012. The album's title comes from a lyric in the track "Just Barely Breathing.", It is also one of the first albums to spark the mainstream rise of the metalcore genre in the early 00s. Singles include "Fixation on the Darkness", "Just Barely Breathing", and "My Last Serenade"

It was the last album to feature vocalist Jesse Leach before his return to the band in early 2012. He originally left the band because of family issues and depression from being on the road. It is also the last album to feature Adam Dutkiewicz as drummer, who immediately switched to guitar after production for the album finished.

Singles
- "Fixation on the Darkness" became the first single of the album. The song was originally called Transfiguration which can be viewed on the bonus disc and was also re-recorded with Howard Jones on vocals, also on the bonus disk. A live music video was made for the song, making it the first music video by the band.
- "Alive or Just Breathing" became the second single official single off the album. The demo of the song can be viewed on the Bonus Disk of the album.
- "My Last Serenade" became the third and final single from the album. This song was the second music video from the band and was also the last single to feature Jesse Leach as the singer until his recent return in 2012. The song was eventually re-recorded with Howard Jones on vocals can be viewed on the Best Buy Bonus Tracks of the future album As Daylight Dies. There was also a live performance with Howard Jones which was recorded on the Special Edition of The End of Heartache album.
- Though not singles, the songs "Temple from the Within" and "Vide Infra" were rerecorded songs of the band first album including "In The Unblind" which was featured in the bonus disk. Also, a live music video of "Life to Lifeless" with Howard Jones was released.
